An upvote/downvote system for posts.

I feel like this would add a lot to the threads, allowing people to see how other users feel about a comment. This could be useful in discussing fan ideas or suggestions to edits. e.g. threads such as ‘A Gentle Restructure’ often involve opinions and suggestions being put forward for the consideration of others, and simply viewing the likes/dislikes/upvotes/downvotes on a post is much simpler, and potentially more effective, than reading through multiple individual messages.

It would also add more interraction in threads, allowing users to like comments they agree with or find particularly interesting, helpful, funny, etc, or dislike comments that they disagree with or find offensive in any way.

I’m not sure if this suggestion has been brought up before but it is something I have been wanting in the time I’ve this website, hopefully there are others who agree.

I don’t think a disliking system would be particularly productive. If someone disagrees with me, I’d rather they explain why rather than hitting a button. What good would that do?

I do like the like system, though.

I disagree. 😉

I find the psychology behind “like” buttons to be sufficiently gross that it makes implementation here unlikely. Forums aren’t social media and I believe adopting tenets of social media will degrade overall discussion quality.

If project owners are looking for feedback, a polling system makes more sense. That’s been on the list for a while.

While I agree that popularity contests can be a bit grating, personally I’ve found on other forums with a like button that it just saves the time of pointless posts like “I agree,” or even allows me to show my agreement when I otherwise might just not say anything at all.

I’m on the site at least five or six times a week but I post maybe once a year if that. I’m always lurking and always reading but I don’t have a lot of input to provide. I see the site as more of a way to see and appreciate what amazing things people are working on.

That being said the ability to “like” a comment would go a long way to making someone like me feel like I’m contributing to the community even if I only ever do that behind the scenes.
