Thank you for posting an update for us! I feel good knowing the relevant people have your work to hold their feet to the fire. This is the most encouraging SW-related news I’ve heard in some time.

My stance on revising fan edits.

This is awesome news - congratulations on the great response!

I’m local but didn’t learn about the presentation until after it happened. If there are any more in LA that are open to the public (as the Cinnafilm one seemed to be?), I’d love to attend.

Jumped at the Eventbrite link when I first saw it but was sad to see it had happened the day before. Would love to see a presentation like this if you have another planned in the area.

I was wondering how that presentation went! Glad to see they’re interested in your restoration methods.

While you have their interest, maybe arrange a full screening of the film with a bunch of Fox/Disney people?

I’m glad to hear there is still behind the scenes activity on this. And it seems like if this Disney fox deal goes through, it’s a shoe-in for release.

I am curious, for these future events you are being asked to speak at, when you have concrete information on those and if it’s a publicly accessible event, if you could let us know, I’m sure many of us in the Hollywood (or otherwise) area would love to come support you and hear you speak.

Well well well, wasn’t expecting this when I woke up this morning.

Thanks for the positive info. Just a question: did you film this presentation? I think a lot of us would like to see it!

Wonderful news in just about every possible way. Very glad that it seems your hard work will pay off even in ways that extend well beyond Star Wars.

getting Star Wars is why Disney’s trying to buy Fox in the first place

That’s very hard to believe though… Fox’ involvment in SW is tiny compared to all the other assets that deal encompasses.

Still, sounds like an huge step forward and I hope you’ll manage to get the presentation filmed the next time.

Awesome news Mike. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on what’s going on.

That is some very encouraging news, thanks for the update!

I thought I recognized your foul stench when I entered this forum!

There seems to be an obvious answer in all this that is very sensible and also everyone wins in some way…

I think Mike may have finally found the solution to “I want”, “you want”, “we want” ok rip up the contracts let’s do this!

It’s a fair call on the cat and mouse play, well done!

Going back last year some conference, there was a guy from Sony going on about 4k and HDR and stuff and where things are headed for home video. I said to him “But like a lot of these films don’t look the same anymore…” He said “oh it’s just a bit of fun” so there you have it, a bit of fun. Well perhaps you can give them a better version of serious fun 😉

Considering the Sony discs are, by far, the best UHD discs out there…

Man, that’s really cool news. I will ALWAYS cherish and seek out fan 35mm preservations. But if we FINALLY get an OFFICIAL quality restoration and release of the OOT that will be something great indeed! These films need to be out there for general audiences to see; not just the obsessive enough, hardcore enough, technically savvy enough of us to hunt down things like 4K77.

If this comes to fruition, I think it will be REALLY interesting to see whether I personally prefer the official release or the fan preservations. But having these officially available again would just be so nice!

Here’s hoping this comes to fruition!

Well, I hit 55 yrs old this week. Hoping to own/view Legacy before I’m too old to remember my own name.

Still keeping the faith here…
