Overall, RJ took a few risks but didn’t go nearly far enough to get away from remixing elements of other SW movies.

So he should have made 90% of people hate it instead of 50% of people hate it?

Haha this is good.

My post was going to be

“So he could only make the creative decisions you wanted him to make, not the ones he wanted.”

Isn’t this a summary of most opinions? “I like this, I didn’t like that, and I wish they’d done this other thing instead.”

The logic behind your line of thinking is sound though, because TFA was applauded — and Disney commercially rewarded — for following the formula.

This was as lazy as I thought it would be.

First, the good. I liked how they incorporated the way Lando pronounces Han’s name. I breathed a sigh of relief when the comic relief characters died. Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover were good, not great. When following after Ford and Billy Dee’s iconic portrayals, that’s enough to make it work I guess.

Now, the bad. The rest of the humor from everybody else was dreadful. Actually, all of the dialogue was pretty bad. Darth Maul is pointless. Also Crimson Dawn, get it, cause Darth Maul is red. Everything that made Han, Han, happened in a couple months. How he got his name, his gun, were really stupid. But Han doesn’t really act like the Han we know in the OT. We’re expected to believe he’s the same guy by the end of the movie?

The weird. So, this takes place before Star Wars, which was heavily influenced by World War II, right? Uhh… what came before WWII? World War One! Here’s trench warfare! But at least they executed it well. The kiss Han’s mentor got. Why? A casual French kiss in Star Wars? Okay, I guess…

I just feel completely indifferent to it. I didn’t expect anything, and I received nothing. So, mission accomplished?

The kiss Han’s mentor got. Why? Seemed strangely intimate, but also casual and forced.

It was way better than young Indy getting his hat, whip, scar, and fear of snakes all in a few hours! 😛

I did like the visual nod to Kubrick’s Paths of Glory.

But that wasn’t what the entire movie was about.

It was weird in Star Wars. I don’t expect people to just casually French kiss.

I don’t know why Lucasfilm seemingly has no interest in such things. They must know we’d buy it. And this isn’t an OOT situation.

They want to maintain the illusion that everything is wholesome behind the scenes.

Well after the hardcore sex scene in TLJ, this is hardly worth mentioning.

Which in the age of the internet is nigh impossible. Even in the original making of ESB paperback you can read about tensions and problems on the set. Every production has them. Nuts to this happy ship illusion they’re peddling.

Dammit! I knew I shouldn’t have gone to the restroom during the movie!

Several wookiees on Kessel had totally bald faces. Are they supposed to be female?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Going by Malla in the SWHS, I’d say no.

Fur can fall out from stress. The spice mines of Kessel aren’t the healthiest place to working in to begin with.

I am glad the Star Wars Holiday Special is now canon.

IIRC, Chewie’s family is canon, whether the events of the HS are is another matter.

I don’t think so. The ship has sailed on this one for that.

My guess would be the same reason they didn’t want people to see that cut in theaters. Plus it invites people to second guess big decision making on the company’s part.

You know people actually do that, right?

And people have sex, shit, and piss, but I don’t want it in Star Wars. Again, I just thought it was weird. It didn’t ruin the film for me.

And yet, we’ve seen poop in Star Wars. 😉

This isn’t really a typical SW film though.

I swear to god I heard someone yell “Malla!” before Chewie and that one Wookiee parted ways.

I wish it and both Ewok movies were still canon and on blu ray.
