Depends on your definition. If it was, a lot of modern media would be too. So much so as to render the label pointless.

what in modern media would be considered fan fiction? i mean, if a guy bought the rights to lotr and decided he’s the new tolkien and wrote a sequel to the book, i’m not sure if i’d consider it “official canon”. i know i don’t consider the 8th harry potter canon, for example.

I’d be here for a long time if I was listing everything. Even a lot of SW media made while Lucas was in charge would qualify.

Also, Harry Potter 8?

The Cursed Child, the play. it was released as the eighth harry potter story, iirc.
