ROTFLMAO

You mean, there's no fourth of July in Canada?

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Sure there is, but it's as empty and meaningless as any other day in Canada...

About how long should we expect the response time to be for email inquiries? Er, is that how we obtain them (mailing TR47), or am I being stupid?

Hello all. I found this site a couple days ago and have been lurking since then. I've read the entire thread, so, yes, I know the answer to the DVD5 question.

Well, I've got a somewhat newbie question, so please don't shoot me if it's a stupid question. First though, here's some background info: A couple years ago, my brother went to the Cambodia and bought bootleg copies of ANH SE and the original ROTJ for me. After looking at Rikter's site, it appears that the ANH SE version I have is from the 5 Star Collection. I don't know what collection the ROTJ disc is from, but it's got a Dennis Muren bonus feature video on it. The image on the disc is the SE poster, which I think is kinda funny.

So, on to my question. I take it that this new Cowclops version (thank you by the way) will be of a higher video quality (in terms of sharpness and smoothness) that the discs that I have. I was wondering how the video on the new Cowclops version compares to the new DVDs that Lucas released last September (disregarding the content changes of course)?

Thanks in advance.

Whats funny is, people have asked more often the quality difference between the final version and the uncompressed version of my capture (an irrelevant question which you already know the answer to) more often than how it actually compares to a DVD. Basically, on a scale of 1 to 10 if film and HD are 10, DVD is 9, I would put laserdiscs (and thus my DVDs) around an 8... and VHS at 5. So, LDs aren't going to look as good as a DVD, but it will be a major improvement over VHS. If theres one thing that I prefer on my discs vs the official DVDs, its that there are a few stupid quality control issues that they apparently didn't notice on the official A New Hope disc. Namely, the fanfare at the beginning of the assault on the death star is virtually inaudible for some reason. Video quality wise, they seem to have thoroughly screwed with the color on A New Hope to the point where some scenes have completely blown out reds and it overall just looks disgusting. On the whole, the legit DVD is of course sharper. But then, there is no "legit DVD" of the non special edition version, so this is probably the best you can do on that for now.

The burning question about this version is.. are there improvements over the original tr47 version that are worth getting this for? And how does it compare to the other recent rips ie; moth3r & editdroid?
Author
Time
The answer is yes, it is a definate improvement. As far as the other comparisons, that you'll have to judge yourself as people's opinions are subjective.

No doubt people will start posting compare screens around here once they get their discs, but make sure you read moth3rs excellent post about what to look for when comparing screenshots - at first glance one image might look better than another, but then you realise that the 'better' one might just be more contrastly and lacking detail in the shadow areas and light areas and so on.

Of course, it looks different on your TV to on the computer as well, and individuals vary in their preferences.

Still, comparing is fun, and stuff pointed out in compares tends to help raise the bar in general.

Off topic.... but this is the same crap you get in the audio world. A stereo system at the shop which has boosted bass and treble - your first instinct is to think it sounds better, when in reality you'd have a headache trying to listen to an entire alubm at home... (bose! cough, cough)
