How is this set coming along? I already have the O-OT on DVD and am looking forward to adding the '97 SE to my collection, and this set sounds like it would be great to have.

My version's coming along good, I've just finished the third movie and am just waiting of a few extras to come through for the documantary disc. Once I get through with that I'll mail em back to dark_jedi for distribution. I believe Rikter's providing an alternate version as well, but I don't know what his layout will be like.

Meanwhile here's a cople of screenshots of the menus for ya.

The chapter selections have full motion video and looped music throughout.

Enjoy

Edit: OK apparently my aren't up for distribution so I apologize to all when I jumped the gun like that. Rikter's are the official release and mine are just personal copies for dark_jedi. Sorry for the confusion all.

I dunno ::Shrugs:: perhaps he's not releasing my version at all.

Originally he just asked me to do the chapter selection, but I suggested I make some simple menus as well so maybe he'll just keep this version for himself and release yours.

Ooh, a laserdisc. The Cheat's playin' something on a laserdisc.
Everything is better on a laserdisc. Whatever happened to the laserdisc? Laserdisc!

The screen shots that Boba Feta and Rikter posted look great. So if it is the same set, but with different menus?
Looking forward to getting them when they are finished!

Menus are very nice. Cover is nice. Letter is vaguely irrelevant (but nicely presented). The transfer itself is mediocre, and obsolete. You're going to hate me for asking, but why preserve the LD -- sans AC3 5.1, it looks like -- when the much better GKar and TB releases exist already? It's sort of like lovingly converting something from 8 track when the exact same thing is already available on CD. For free.

well to answer your question i did it for something to do,and to preserve every single LD i have before the discs or the player stops working, and also i wanted an NTSC version and in ENGLISH,i cannot watch any of those sets(PAL) and i want an english crawl, but you know everyone is entitled to there opinions, and i respect yours, but it is simply another option,if you want them great if not thats great too,but it seems there are some people interested(even if ONLY 1 or 2 download the set, thats 2 people we helped out) and Rikter and i are just trying to help out the Star Wars community.
I am also going to do my 8-tracks of the "Faces"set and the "Definitive"set, but wont release becuase there are ALOT of versions already, and i cant compete with the TR47/Cowclops v2.0 set and the X0 sets.
sorry for the rant

I think the TB release happened while I was on vacation. Is there a thread with info on it somewhere? Or can someone supply me with some? </n00b>

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I for one am looking forward to seeing this release, for the same reasons that darkjedi said above. I know the SEs have their problems, but is still "Star Wars" and worthy of preservation and being a bit of a completist, am looking forward to filling in this hole in my Trilogy sets. Thanks for all the work DarkJedi!

@ dark_jedi:

Hey, I don't mean to pee on your campfire. All the reasons you gave for doing your transfer are valid. I might even download the whole thing myself, just for the menus, etc., which look very nice. But for me, I think I'll prefer to stick to DVB caps for the SE -- which is a sort of bastard child, anyway.

Thanks for your effort to get this done, regardless!

I look forward to this release. I'm a young'un, and 97 was the first time I watched Star Wars on the big screen. I see it as part of the history of Star Wars, and just as I own the 2004 DVDs (and watch them from time to time, too), I feel it's important to keep the SE intact, too. Interestingly, last month I bought the SE on laserdisc at a garage sale, despite not owning, and never having owned, a laserdisc player. They just sit on the shelf beside the VHS.

Cheers, dark_jedi and Rikter! I can't wait to be transported back to 1997!
