She was, wasn’t she? I haven’t seen it in a long time, but I recall several scenes that implied that.

Which scenes then? I don’t remember anything other than her befriending a kid. If it wasn’t for AOTC no one would even question it.

Did she really even befriend him? All I remember is the scene where she makes fun of him for being a slave and he says “I’m a person and my name is Anakin!”

Yes she did. One example, he’s cold on the starship when flying to Coruscant and she gives him a blanket. He misses his mom and she comforts him.

She did it in an awkward and romantic way. I found the age difference inappropriate and petitioned for the film to be banned.

I sense a mix of truth and exaggeration in this post.

Regardless, given how long it’s apparently been since you’ve seen the film, you should watch that scene again and see if you actually feel that way or your memory of it is distorted. If the former, I’d argue you’re putting your own interpretation onto a scene that doesn’t contain what you say it does.

It’s a Mandela effect where I’m remembering things that aren’t real.

I like to think of the entire PT that way. It never happened!

I’m not sure where to post this as I can’t seem to find any of the old “soundtrack” discussions, but I notice that the new RETURN OF THE JEDI CD release is the original 1983 version (YAY!!!) and I’m wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to compare the sound quality to the old Anthology set and the 2-disc sets?

There are a few soundtrack and audio discussions listed in the Index for this section of the site - in the ‘Theatrical Cuts vs. Subsequent Releases’ Index, and in the ‘Star Wars Preservation’ Index too mate 👍

Nice one that it’s the original '83 version 😃

Thanks a bunch! I was a bit shocked when I saw that the CD actually contained “Lapti Nek” and “Ewok Celebration.” 8-O That’s the first time they’ve been released on CD since the SEs.

Most of us agree he’s super creepy in AotC.

Oh God, yeah. “I will do anything you ask,” was the weirdest and creepiest line delivery in the whole PT, I think.

Actually IIRC he said that to Palpatine upon becoming his apprentice.

Not enough people read the EU.

Han never pilots the Falcon in ROTJ.

He does pilot it, we just don’t see him (when they leave Tatooine, though Chewie is probably doing most of
the piloting because of Han’s condition).

Seems unwise to let Han drive at that point. And Chewie isn’t in great shape either after the barge battle.

Yeah I don’t think they’d let Han “behind the wheel,” considering.

Funny, I now recall when I saw TPM in the theatre I was relatively spoiler-free and had no idea that Padme was supposed to be Luke and Leia’s mother, and therefore expected no connection between her and Anakin beyond childish friendship. It wasn’t until later watching a doco with a member of the crew, possibly Robin Gurland, commenting that she had worked to find an actress who could pass as Leia’s mother.

Somehow I’d managed to miss the Weird Al music video and the “I won’t always be” deleted scene that spell out Anakin’s feelings for Padme.

Even so, I still can’t see anything beyond innocent friendship in the final cut of the film.

They told me they’d fixed it!

I mean, that’s how it’s pronounced, so…

JEDIT: You pronounce “oliver” as “ollyver”?

Man, all this talk of the romance in the Prequel Trilogy just makes me more confused and frustrated with how they handled Anakin and Padme’s relationship. In the Phantom Menace, the age difference looks ridiculous. We all know the trainwreck that was their relationship in AoTC, but TPM also gives us a weird, eerie vibe to begin with.

Fantastic Films magazine? They did a lot of wild speculating back in the day between sequels. I need to find those and see if anything was on the money. Not sure they were still in business by the time Jedi was out.

Isn’t there an accent mark over the “e” in official publications? Which would make it “OH-lee-AY”?
