Makes sense, I’m happier now that he doesn’t have the stress of star wars also.
They’ve been hemming and hawing on this without a straight answer for years. Why would they stop now? 😉
Where were you in '77?
Does anyone feel like Lucas had another round of changes in him? Like he will return and mess up the movies even more?
It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher
What’s he gonna do, walk up to Iger and ask nicely for his franchise back?
.
I think George is happier these days without the stress of Star Wars to worry about. Plus he’s building a museum right now.

Exactly, rights were never an issue. They’re respecting Lucas’s wishes.
Lucas who released them in '06. I find this confusing, yet it really seems the only plausible explanation. I guess he changed his mind… again.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.
Released in the cheapest way possible that was below the minimum standard for DVD releases at the time.
I almost hope someone at Lucasfilm accidentally degaussed those 1993 master tapes so they can’t ever be inflicted on consumers again. 😉

Well a properly restored 4K versions of the OOT would look great on the new Disney streaming service, and Bob Iger knows it.
Honestly, I don’t think anyone but us cares at this point. There’ll always be a market for it, but Star Wars is such a weirdly handled entity at this point that they would probably choose avoid any “controversial” thing rather than make whatever negligible profit off it that they would make. That’s my theory anyway.

Yeah, (cough) I’d like a 4K release of Star Wars (cough cough). It would be a nice way to celebrate the 25th (cough).
Sorry, I’m kinda dreamy today (cough).
Sometimes I feel like it doesn’t even matter. You have a whole generation of fans who grew up on the SEs and that’s all they know. They are lost.

But Fang Zei is certain it’s gonna happen!
Hahahaha.
What are you talking about, Mavimao? Something official? Or a third-party project? What is the average air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
This is what I was talking about: a fan made 4k restoration made (almost) exclusively from 4k scans of Technicolor prints. Enjoy!
What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.
But who controls the spice controls the universe.
Which versions of TESB & ROTJ would match perfectly with 4K77? Grindhouse? DE? Is there going to be a 4K80 & 4K83?
YUB NUB!

that’s personal preference.

yep.

Well, if it took this long for 4K77, then it’s going be awhile (perhaps years?). 😦
I especially want 4K83. Return Of The Jedi is my all time favorite Star Wars movie.
I wonder if these will be released in ISO form…
Update: Just watched a clip for 4K83 on the Star Wars Trilogy website. OMFG! It looks beautiful! 😮
YUB NUB!
You’re in luck then, because 4K83 is next on the docket and the source material is in significantly better shape than SW and ESB.
Yeah, Jedi looks gorgeous! With a little luck it might be out this year!

I’ll push into the cautiously optimistic PoV: Maybe not the final cut, but perhaps a beta release, like what 4k77 was in since January, will be out this year.
I think we’ll probably see the trilogy in 4K within the next year or two now that Disney has bought out Fox. Whether it’s the original trilogy or the terrible, ugly, 1990s-video-game trilogy is a different question. I normally would assume that we wouldn’t get the unaltered versions, but between mverta’s newest update and the “slow down” we’re supposed to expect from the new films, I think that they might release a big box set that includes the original versions as a selling point. I’m not holding my breath, but I wouldn’t be stunned by any means.

i mean, in a couple of weeks we’ll have the original version of ROTJ almost as clean as the bluray in 4K regardless, so…
I meant officially. I also doubt that any fan preservation “almost as clean” as the blu-ray.
