30 minutes left to go in Blade Runner 2049…

…and somehow there’s been three more scenes with completely unnecessary female nudity. While I disagree with the justification provided for the initial scene, at least I understand why y’all would make it. These three, I see zero reason for them and I’d love to hear you try to justify them this time.

I can only remember one (the holographic billboard), unless you’re talking about multiple instances of that same thing?

-Post-sex scene…which is even more ridiculous since they purposely kept the camera at shoulder height pre-sex secne, then didn’t even show any sex. And Ryan wasn’t even in the room, let alone the bed.
-Random Vegas statues in nonsensical poses, naked except for heels…what the hell was that? And yes I know they were just statues. Still ridiculous.
-Yes, holographic billboard. Worst offender of any of these. Completely gratuitous.

I didn’t mind the nudity.

One could argue that the ad is a depiction of how in the dystopian future, women are objectified even further than in the present. Whether it’s a good depiction is another question, and the answer is probably no, but it doesn’t bother me much, if at all. Then again, I’m not a woman, so my opinion should carry less weight.

That awkward moment when you realize the filmmakers put their sexual fetish in the movie? 😛

I legitimately don’t remember any nudity in this part so I won’t comment… I do have some thoughts, but I will have to revisit first.

It’s Vegas. That it’s ridiculous is the fucking point. It’s not supposed to be “yeah this city’s awesome we got naked statues fuck yeah!” The city is absolutely destroyed. The symbolism here is pretty easy to discern.

I don’t know what’s so hard to understand about making a comment on exploitation. The billboard is advertising a woman as a literal object. The objectification is 100% the point that’s being made.

I’m not going to say that the movie is perfect when it comes to gender politics. You play with fire you’re going to get at least a little bit burned. But you can’t completely ignore that the filmmakers intentions were in the right place. It’s obvious what they were trying to say.

Dom said everything I was going to say, especially about the statues.

I find it crazy that naked statues are now offensive. Statues =/= real people.

Yeah. Women do need to just keep their clothes on. sarcasm

I like the movie, but I’m still confused as to how a superhero ban is supposed to work.

You do understand that not liking nudity in movies isn’t the same as being offended by it right? For me I don’t like it just because it takes me out of the movie.

And thinking is unnecessary and offensive aren’t the same thing either.
