4K restoration on Star Wars — Page 261

I think people misuse the word “pointless” when it comes to “pointless fan service.” A lot of people see fan service and assume automatically that it must be “pointless.” In my mind, pointless fan service is a thing that happens in service of only the fans, and not the story. If it can do both, it’s no longer pointless.

Bad fan service is when it’s checklist storytelling - and here we have Ponda Baba, and next we have this, and then that, etc. One of the worst for me is at the end of Rogue One when they kill the whole crew. Most of those deaths don’t have any meaning or purpose in regards to the story, they just kill them to satisfy fans looking for a “dark” and “mature” Star Wars movie.

Solo could easily fall into this trap, but in my mind, stuff like “winning the Falcon” sounds like a plot point, rather than something that happens just for the sake of it. We’ll see, I guess.

I don’t mind the ending of Rogue One, but maybe it’s just because you hardly ever see a movie that’s willing to do it. Looking at you, Serenity. Would have been a perfect ending to a great movie but you didn’t quite have the guts.

I also don’t care about Ponda…yeah I’d agree it’s pointless, but it’s also one shot in a movie over two hours long. Shrug.

I don’t care about Ponda either. It’s dumb and it lasts too long. But whatever, it’s only a few seconds. My point is that just because a movie references something fans know doesn’t mean it’s automatically bad. It’s how they do it that matters.

I wouldn’t know. I’ve never seen the predator series. But as I understand it, Predator isn’t a timeless classic.

I rest my case. And a point of clarification. I have seen some of the Predator series. Alien v. Predator was the second of a drive-in double feature once. It put me to sleep.

Only the first Predator movie is any good. Same with Rocky and Rambo.

Why? They have a franchise with endless potential for new stories.

Everything will be remade/rebooted eventually. Casablanca, The Godfather, and yes even Star Wars.

Jayne Cobb is my boyfriend so leave him alone. I still want a sequel to Serenity with the crew and Wash and Zoe’s kid.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

There is really no evidence for this claim at all.

There have been two tv series based on Casablanca. One in 1955 and the second in 1983.

If Disney’s buyout of Fox actually goes through, Lucasfilm-under-Disney is officially out of excuses re: an OOT restoration.
