Is it just me or do others miss the trade mark streaking star lights when ships go to light speed in the prequel trilogy. After rewatching the old trilogy, I noticed that they don't have the light speed lines.

I am I the only that misses them?

Believe it or not, Lucas actually did this on purpose. He wanted the hyperspace "look" to be exclusive to the OT. I'll see if I can find the quote.

Well, here's some confirmation: "George Lucas refrained from putting an in-cockpit view of a jump to hyperspace in the prequel trilogy as he wanted to save the effect for the classic films" - LINK

I've never really thought about it before. It's been a while since I've watched the prequel trilogy, though. Do they do it some other way, or are there simply no scenes that show a hyperspace jump from the perspective of the cockpit? Because, now that I think of it, I don't recall any cockpit hyperspace scenes.

Wow. I wish you could find that quote. So Lucas has no qualms about putting prequel trilogy stuff into the original trilogy, but he wants to keep original trilogy elements out of the prequel trilogy? That sounds almost insulting if you put it that way.

That's interesting... I did not know he did not want to do that. What publication did you read this from?

Hardly. He wanted it to be unique to the OT. I don't see the problem with that.

No, me either. I think that's interesting. I just think it almost sounds insulting from the perspective that he feels free to dirty up the OT with PT elements, yet the OT has to stay encapsulated and is not worthy to touch the PT. I mean, I know that wasn't his intention, but when I wrote my first post, I looked at it and realized that how I'd written it was what it sounded like.

That is most interesting, but it seems rather uncharacteristic on his part, based on his previous actions of not showing much respect to his property. I mean, he's milked every other sentimental element of the OT for the PT. But, really, it works. I've never thought about it before, but it just seems weird seeing those elongated hyperspace stars in any prequel trilogy scene. Wow. I'm impressed.

You know, guys. I don't understand why you'all are getting your panties in a bunch over this. This was a show of respect to the OT. There's no conspiracy theory here. Sheesh.

I'm sorry I even bothered to tell you guys now....

Well... This being the Original Trilogy Forum... I guess we should be happy he wanted to save something just for the OT. I just have never heard of anything before that Lucas only wanted it in the OT. Thanks for the info.

Gee, thanks Lucas for saving it just for the OT. LOL! Who gives a shit!
"Drink the Kool-Aid. Wear blinders. Cover your ears. Because that's the only way you can totally enjoy Revenge of the Sith -- the final and most futile attempt from skilled producer, clumsy director and tin-eared writer George Lucas to create a prequel trilogy to match the myth-making spirit of the original Star Wars saga he unleashed twenty-eight years ago. Fan boys, of course, have convinced themselves otherwise. So have several critics, if you go by early reviews."

Well LucASS has screwed up the movies..so I don't think this sorta think wouldn't surprise me.

How is having something exclusive to the OT "screwing up the movies," I don't understand the big debate behind it(possibly because its only purpose is giving Anti-Lucases another reason to use LucASS and LucA$$).

No offense to the starter of this thread, SWFanboy, he had a valid question, some of you are in this thread just to bash Lucas again.

Yeah, there's really no need to complain about it at all. It doesn't mess up the original films because it doesn't affect them. And I don't think most people noticed that they weren't in the prequels. I sure didn't. I don't think it would have made any difference had they been in there (although, like I said earlier, it just doesn't feel like it belongs in the prequels, but maybe that's just because they weren't there to begin with), but it's a nice thought that Lucas would want to save that for the OT. I'm still not sure why he'd want to save that, though, when he tried to re-use other things for nostalgic value.

I don't like Luca Bashing or Bashers so I will save my opinon of them for myself. I will not add to their fire. Lucas though can be an enigma and does things that make no sense to us but makes perfect sense to him... So Hyperspace stars or no Hyperspace stars, he does what he wants because they are his movies and it is impossible for him to "screw up the movies"

That said

I still miss the Hyperspace lines... Who else here does!?

I can kind of understand Lucas' reasoning here, but I still think it was a mistake. The 'hyperspace effect' has a certain familiarity that is sorely missing from the prequels. But they wouldn't be any better with it.

Anyway, this question was featured on 'Ask the Jedi Council' at the official site a couple of years ago. That entire feature seems to have disappeared from the site, but here's the actual quote:

Quote

Why haven't we seen the stars stretch into lines when a ship jumps to hyperspace in the prequel trilogy?

For the definitive answer, we turn to none other than George Lucas himself. Here's what he had to say:

"I think of the series as one movie. In order to keep the impact of the hyperspace jump in Episode IV, I have decided not to use it in the first three films. If you're watching them from one to six, you'll get the same thrill."

You know, they probably would've botched the effect anyway. They sure couldn't do it for the DVD Special Features, it looked awfully like an off-the-shelf Trapcode Shine effect.

This may have been said already, but if you want to see the Hyperspace lines chronologicaly before the OT, KoToR has them in spades.
