Also my eyes are bleeding.

Why? It’s funny as hell.

I’m starting to get the idea, based on two posts Handman has made today, that men who aren’t fully clothed make him uncomfortable.

I’m hesitant to guess why though.

Let’s just say… The loincloth works well on female anatomy, but on male anatomy… it’s a bit bulky.

hey guys it isn’t hard to understand frink’s point. he’s just saying that there’s a lot of pressure, not only from directors or producers but also society and moviegoers for women to show their body. maybe it can’t be considered pressure, but it’s normal for women to show their body as a way to ‘impress’ men and catch their attention - basically saying that a woman’s body is her greatest feat or something - which is sexist. i’m not saying anyone here is sexist, just that society the way it has developed, is.

nudity in film is just another example of that.

And it’s ridiculous to say that

A) Women should be expected to do whatever the script calls for and
B) Women should just refuse the job if they don’t want to do it

I’ll show you something that’s a bit bulky, but based on your posts today you probably wouldn’t want to see it.

Or would but can’t admit it for one reason or another.

We’re here for you regardless.

If they accept the job knowing what the script calls for then yes that is reasonable.

B) Women should just refuse the job if they don’t want to do it

Not ridiculous at all. If there’s a part available that calls for nudity and they don’t want to be nude on camera, then they should just refuse the job.

But of course Han has her midriff showing.

Oh yeah, I’m sure someone forced her to show it.

Oh yeah, I’m sure I was saying that.

It came across that way. I get the idea that you’re at least implying that it’s somehow a bad thing that she’s showing her stomach and I don’t see how it could be bad unless she was forced to show it. It’s funny that that is what is problematic when she’s standing next to a guy in a slave outfit with a loin cloth and nothing else (and by the way, that isn’t offensive either, at least not to me).

That’s his cross to bear, not ours.

At least I’m consistent on this! I want some acknowledgement for that. 😉

You’re trying to make a complex issue into a very simple one, so I give up.

I think my big disconnect is actually that I just can’t accept that I need to be offended that some of the most privileged people on Earth (actors) are getting paid to do things that I don’t see as that big of a deal. I’ve complained before about how offended I get when the .01% expects us plebs to join their causes while still dealing with all the other shit that we have to deal with that they’re completely ignorant of.

What the fuck. So just because I don’t want to look at some guy’s bulge makes me gay?

The fact that you think all actors are privelged proves how little you understand about the issue. Also whether or not a nude scene will be portrayed in an objectifying way is not really something the actors have much power over.

They’re more privileged than I am. And they have the power to appear in the scene or not.

No one said that. I said that you being uncomfortable with male nudity is your cross to bear and shouldn’t affect how everyone else lives their lives, takes pictures, or films scenes.

I don’t know if you’re gay. It’s a little weird that it bothers you so much either way.

But sorry for saying anything.

They’re more privileged than I am.

The really famous ones are. Most actors are no more privileged than any other ordinary person working a day job.

And they have the power to appear in the scene or not.

Yes, and most of them can also kiss their career goodbye if they don’t. Just like the women who rebuffed Weinstein could kiss their career goodbye if they pushed back too hard.

No, their job is better than anything day job people can get. And the one’s who are in Blade Runner 2049 are definitely more privileged than me.

Weinstein’s much different. He’s a predator. I made that exception for maltreatment. I’m only talking about nude scenes that are made clear to the people being cast in the role.

Not all of them. In fact, not most of them.

They all have the ability to choose and they’re more privileged than me because they have a better job and get to create things for a living.
