You Only Move Twice (1996 Simpsons episode)

The premise (from Wikipedia)

The second episode of The Simpsons’ eighth season. It first aired on the Fox network in the United States on November 3, 1996. The episode, based on a story idea by Greg Daniels, has three major concepts: the family moves to a new town; Homer gets a friendly, sympathetic boss; and that boss, unbeknownst to Homer, is a supervillain. Bart, Lisa, and Marge each have individual secondary storylines. It was directed by Mike B. Anderson and written by John Swartzwelder.

So this is the best episode of The Simpsons and if you disagree you’d better put forth a good candidate. I can think of two off the top of my head that I might concede to.

But seriously, this episode has it all. Albert Brooks, Homer failing upwards and not realizing it, amazingly quotable dialogue (“Ever seen a someone say goodbye to a shoe?!”), James Bond parodies, the Denver Broncos…

Truly the best.

Oh this is such a good episode.

But I do feel like there are better ones I will have to think about this for a long time.

I can never actually name a #1 best all-time episode. “Duffless” and “Brother From Another Planet” are top eps for me. “You Only Move Twice” is kind of the last truly brilliant episode, unless somebody can prove me wrong.

El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Homer, from later in the same season, which is another contender for #1 for me.

Also The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson, from the next season. (Though that one’s not in my top 5 either.)

Can’t prove it, and this episode is better, but both The Cartridge Family and Bart Star are great Season 9 episodes. I’d say they were the last.

JEDIT: City of New York episode is pretty good but I like these two better.
