Star Wars: The Last Jedi - The Dark Cut (* unfinished project *) — Page 7

I was ok with the removal of the salt line, that part didn’t matter to me,

Need the Rose / Stabilzer scene. Clearly his stabilizer was not engaged, and then it transition to the shot all of them have their mono-skis out. Continuity error there my friend. It shows that those rusty buckets have to have those in order to have control.

I didn’t mind the foot thing at all, personally.

Medallion removal, I can take it or leave it.

While all of the edits and transitions are done very well, I don’t like cutting out Rose looking at her medallion, I think that should stay.

That was done smoothly! Good job on keeping Hux’s expression/reaction.

Very, very rough test for an idea regarding Luke dropping the lightsaber:

Just a thought. The lightsaber right before Luke drops it is a bit low in the frame, given the action we are about to follow of it falling out of frame. I wonder how this might look zoomed in slightly and bringing the saber closer to center of the frame. Perhaps someone with the 4K copy could provide this single shot if this proves to be an improvement.

EDIT: I lied. Of course it’s not “just a thought.” I want it to be good so that I might use it myself. 😉

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to decaptitate Luke or anything. I was just wondering if scooching the saber up slightly in the shot might help it feel more natural. As it is, a crappy theater could conceivably accidentally crop the saber out of that shot when it is projected.
If you tried it, then I’m sure it’s a dead end, but I’ll try playing with it when I have the chance.

Hum… you know, the close up on Rey before Luke throws away the saber has a slight camera movement (a zoom). Could the same zoom be done to Luke’s shot ? Since the edit removes the saber throwing hence the dynamic of the shot, I believe a zoom which mimics the previous shot one would still give this dynamic effect that’s missing with the edit.

New Transition - https://vimeo.com/268628072

Here I cut out a small chunk of the movie for better pacing. The advantages of what was cut are as follows:

-There is no longer a definite time frame mentioned (“18 hours”). This helps imply more passage of time over the course of the film.
-The audience does not have to sit through the Porgs nesting in the Falcon and bugging Chewie.
-We get back to Rey and Luke quicker which is always a plus.

I’d love to hear what you all think!

Pretty seamless! I didn’t even realize what you cut at first.

Same here!

Well done, but I still don’t get why you would make him live since he’s going to stay dead during EpIX.

It’s just a fun alternate version that I am putting out alongside the regular version of the edit. Who knows, episode 9 might be terrible and this could be retconned in my head as the conclusion of the saga, or maybe ep. 9 can be edited to accommodate Luke living.

Really, it is just a fun alternative to the regular release of the edit.

I present the ending to one of the alternate versions of the release…the “Skywalker Lives” edition!

oh god. watching this was so frustrating because if that was actually how the movie ended, it really would be THAT much better to me. like, it’d probably go up to 4th place in my ranking. oh god.
