If I had kids, and I never will, I wouldn’t care too much about the harmless kids shows they watch on TV. I would, however, not let them on YouTube or other online video places, where the content aimed at young kids is genuinely terrifying.
(I didn’t click on that.) My wife and I watch family-friendly Let’s Plays of video games sometimes, but instead of watching them on Youtube, I download them and watch them through my media server because of the inapproprate ads that show up regularly on Youtube. My daughter can watch someone play Yoshi’s Wooly World or Wind Waker, but she doesn’t need to watch the R-rated movie trailer that pops up mid-stream.
Besides, the Youtuber would probably get more money from me if I sent them $5 on Patreon than by my meager number of views.
Man most let’s plays I’ve seen curse like sailors regardless of the game.
Yes. It’s annoying.
If I want to watch a game, I search through a lot of LPer’s playlists and cherry-pick the one I like. It’s not just about swearing, but also crude humor. In addition, they need to be entertaining.
Some people, like chuggaconroy, don’t necessarily swear but he makes sexist jokes among other immaturity. I started watching his Wind Waker LP, when he really early on made some joke about Tetra going back to the kitchen. Whether he was serious or not, my wife would definitely not find such comments funny. Conversely, I’ve found several people to be clean, but they approach an LP more like a walkthrough, so I’m trading dirty for bland.
I used to be less selective about who I frequently watch (even for myself) but have become much much moreso since my daughter was born.
LPer’s I watch lately are Gopher, StephenPlays, Olizandri, DazzLetsPlays, kwingletsplays, and MasaeAnela.
