The problem, though, is that I haven’t seen any of these brash statements. At least not ones that actually matter. Tyson’s attempt at a witty tweet about sex being enjoyable didn’t take into account all species, but that’s more an indictment on Twitter and how much it sucks for dumbing everything down to 140 characters. The most offensive one to me was NDT’s tacit defense of Scientology. That wasn’t brash. It was a PC attempt to not offend anyone, not even Scientologists. I also don’t really get what Nye is so horribly wrong about because no one’s told me. His show being terrible doesn’t mean that he’s not intelligent or is wrong about everything.

Seriously though, Joe Rogan played an electrician on NewsRadio…which is the only reason I’m familiar with him. Turns out he was an MMA fighter, then an MMA commentator, host of some dumb network challenge show many years ago, and I guess supposedly is a stand-up comedian and podcast host. Only stuff I’ve ever heard from him outside of NewsRadio makes me think he’s just a dumb jock meathead.

It’s not good because of Joe Rogan. It’s good because it’s just a platform for his guests to speak. Basically, he’ll get guests on his show and let them talk conversationally. When someone like NDT, an ex-cop turned activist, a historian, former cult members, or good comedians it can be really interesting. When it’s a shit guest, the show sucks. It isn’t like Fear Factor or anything.

I’m wary of putting kids in front of screens, more so handheld devices. And not that I didn’t watch a tremendous amount of TV growing up. I think Sesame Street and Mister Rogers are good for kids. Don’t know about MLP.
