I cast my vote for The Empire Strikes Back on the Atari 2600 .
I actually bought my father that this past Christmas as he grew up with the 2600 and didn’t have it in his collection.
I was born in the early 90s so I had more of an SNES, N64 upbringing, but I sat down to play the 2600 ESB with him and was blown away. A very good little game considering the time it was released in.
I really think Star Wars’ gaming peak was the late 90s through the mid 00’s. Battlefront, KOTOR, Rogue Squadron, Jedi Knight; there were a lot of groundbreaking titles in that little space of time.
Current Star Wars gaming on the other hand, absolutely abhorrent. The Force Unleashed 1 wasn’t too bad, but I struggle to think of a single game released after that that even comes close to the aforementioned time period, or even earlier.
EA’s Battlefront 1 and 2 might be decent if they were actually the first and second games released under that brand name, but as the third and fourth they’re inexcusably bland and generic.
Star Wars: Kinect is hilarious to drunkenly bring out at parties though, so I’ll give it that.
