Well, what I did was: first, I recorded a lot of takes of the orginal line. Then, the other line occured to me and I lip synched that a dozen times as well. So the original lines were all recorded as well. I record originals, I record changes, and then I record alternates that seem appropriate at the time. Later, I can select original lines or alternate lines and have a variety of takes to choose from.

Come to think of it, that line may not be appropriate there. I was just thinking of the Vader unmasking scene in ROTJ for some reason, and I for some reason thought of an extremely rude exchange:

Anakin: Don’t go.
Padme: I don’t want to disturb you.
Anakin: You already have.

(Another one of Vader's lines from that scene). Then, I thought of the other line, and it may have seemed brilliant at the time because I was comparing it with the one above. You know what- I'll use the original line.

"Don't fix it if it ain't broke." I sometimes find myself (like Lucas) forgetting that. Actually, I'm just starting to appreciate how much restraint it takes to not go bananas during the editing process. Although I've written and edited more than one amateur film, doing this with Star Wars is giving me a different perspective on the whole thing.
