Of course his version will look better...on your own setup. There are a lot of people who don't own widescreen televisions and for those cases, letterbox will be ideal. Your claim of non-anamorphic material being "always inferior" is a simplistic and somewhat naive opinion.

Anamorphic isn't at all ideal in the grand scheme of things (sometimes I get the impression that people just throw that term a little too loosely). What would be the greatest thing ev-ah, is non-anamorphic, hi-def, widescreen images.

However, due to the limitations of the DVD standard in conjuction with outdated NTSC/PAL standards, anamorphic based material is the best way to get a nice image on 16x9 televisions.

I can't wait until HD becomes the norm...
