Those are some very well thought out ideas RogueLeader. Here is my idea that I thought of:

Firstly, I like the pacing of moving from Finn getting out of his speeder to Kylo telling them to advance inwards. Losing all the stuff with Finn rushing to Rose and getting kissed keeps everything moving and at a nice dark tone. Now the issue with this is we still need to see Finn come back to the base. Here is my very simple solution that I honestly think would work.

You see Finn drag Rose into the base but cut away right before Finn says “She’s hurt pretty bad” and there’s a close up of who it is. Instead you see Finn rushing in with an injured solider, and him calling for a medic. You then can assume that Finn has now returned and brought with him an injured solider.

One nice thing about this thematically is that it shows not only that Finn has completed his arc by making the run on the cannon, but also that he still cares about saving what he loves. Now his arc in the Last Jedi feels like it was earned and resolved. Finn learns to value what truly is important and to save what he love. And if that means destroying the cannon then so be it. And if that works out, he’ll pick up an injured solider while he’s at it.
