The obviously greatly offended John Williams had this to say back in 2002 when he first made the changes to ANH -

I am thrilled to have the chance to go back to something I composed in 1977 and be able to make the entire saga continuous theme-wise. Notably absent in the first movie is the Imperial March. Being able to insert that theme in the first movie will create a much stronger emotional flow throughout the Saga.
...
After the release of Episode III George will enhance the original trilogy with additional scenes and special effects, adding my adjustments to the score this will seamlesly branch the entire Star Wars Saga into one massive romantic space opera. I think something of this magnitude has never been done before.

Ooh, a laserdisc. The Cheat's playin' something on a laserdisc.
Everything is better on a laserdisc. Whatever happened to the laserdisc? Laserdisc!

Isn't it funny how GL means both George Lucas and Good Lord. And isn't it funny how every time he does something stupid, I wheeze Good Lord like I've been punched in the balls.

Which is the more foolish, the fool (the OT) or the fool who follows (the PT)?

So, has it been decided that this is fake then?

Either way, I'm not getting them. I'd rather be watching Magfan edits.

(And it'd be interesting if Magfan edits all 6 of the movies)

before i was sure of this. Im suprised no one else picked up/commented on this. If the majority of the changes are to be in IV-VI and everytime he makes changes he 'trashes' the previous version. Why would he release a Prequal box set seperatly just so people didnt have to buy his new versions where more changes have been made to mainly the OT? He wouldnt thats why.

also this comment makes no sense (again imho):

at the end of the day, as crass as this sounds, there is NO way lucas is going to pass up a huge marketing and sales opportunity by combining the DVD release of ROTS (by itself an event) with a new mega boxed set of all six films...especially when the first boxed set will be barely a year old when the new one comes out.

my money's on 2007 for the next Star Wars on DVD release.

how does the first set being a year old matter. Guarenteed there are some people that havent bought the current set that would buy this (if this were true), there would be some people that would buy this even though they have the other one, and the people that wouldnt buy it cause they either a) didnt want it at all or were b) waiting for the OOT on dvd wouldnt affect the situation either way. How does combining the two really hurt the sales situation...if anything it will boost sales because some people that might be just going out to buy ROTS may decide to get this set instead of just ROTS. And why would this release stop/have any effect on a 2007 release?

So is ROTS going to come out in 2007? Or is the boxed set coming out in 07?

And how many times has he put the videos/DVD out? And in their fancy little sets as well? Can we even count that high?

ROTS is comming out in november.

I believe that there is also a repackaging of the current discs at around that time or possibly around Christmas time, though im not sure on that, that may have just been speculation.

As far as the 2007, my guess would that will be when more changes are made and possibly new transfers of the OT, but I dont know if there is any hard info on that release yet, someone else might know better

Because there would only be one thing to buy. If he makes it so there's two things to buy, people will buy both. No matter how similar the two are.

right...i think...or maybe not!

what I'm saying is that the release of ROTS on dvd will by itself be a big media/promo event. as will any future release of the saga on DVD with new extras, etc.

people may buy both, but the media and marketing blitz could be doubled if he releases them separately instead of all at once. it's just better marketing savvy, and if there's one thing LFL can do, it's market.

Am I the only one who's completely unthrilled by this? I actually don't think the Imperial March belongs in ANH and I don't think it's anywhere close to being the best music in the OT.

Yeah, the current Imperial Theme in A New Hope is good enough for me. The Imperial March is great, but it's already one of the most overused songs in history.
