Star Wars: The Last Jedi - The Dark Cut (* unfinished project *) — Page 5

So how would you handle Rose being unconscious for the rest of the film? You could cut all of those scenes, but I think it would also be worth attempting to have her also get shot by a TIE or an AT-AT before Finn makes his run. Then after he gets shot down, he could go find her (unconscious) and bring her back to the base. That way you could keep more material.

I would also be interested in seeing edits that keep Rose rescuing him, but maybe setting it up more and shortening his approach. Because I think it does have value as a character moment, it’s just executed strangely, imo.

I’ll most likely try cutting the rest of Rose at the end but if it doesn’t work then I will try your option.

jarbear, I’m not sure we need to visually paint out Rose’s speeder because in all honesty, it just looks like Finn’s speeder broke apart when it got shot. I will absolutely be changing the target lock sound effect but am curious if you have qualms with it visually. It is an altered shot from a previous one in the Crait battle so it feels visually official. At least I think haha.

Thanks for the feedback.

They both sound very seamless to me, and I like the new target lock sound. Helps differentiate it from the TIE.

For the Finn Run, have you tried reinserting the rest of that track after he gets hit, or do you like how it just cuts off when he gets shot down? I am not saying I don’t, it kinda works! Just thought it would be interesting to compare it with that alternative.

The Finn run is really well done, except when the emotional track stops it feels like a record scratch. There should be some sort of musical transition if that makes sense?

I like it, good job. I definitely think the shot of the AT-AT firing should be flipped horizontally, I think that would greatly improve the scene.

I think that if you flip the shot then it won’t make sense. It is meant to look like Finn’s right speeder wing gets hit so you would expect an AT AT to be shooting from that angle.

Watching it again I see what you mean. I was thinking that it would better match the direction Finn looks, and the angle the scene is shot at in general. Works either way though.

That is a good point in regards to the angle that the whole scene is shot in. The only issue is you see the shuttle for Kylo right next to the AT-AT and if you flip the shot then his shuttle is in the wrong place. I will try cropping it out and then if that works, I think I will implement your suggestion for the sake of visual flow 😃

I wanted to give some insight into the different versions I will be releasing for this edit when it is finished. I updated my title post as well. The versions are as follows:

  1. Standard Edition (Same as cutlist. Nothing more. Nothing less.)
  2. Time Passage Edition (The ending of the Force Awakens is appended to when she hands Luke the saber in TLJ. New opening crawl implies passage of time.)
  3. Skywalker Lives Edition (Luke Skywalker survives. We end the movie with him staring at the binary sunsets in this version.)

I am rescoring two scenes in the movie and if you are not a fan of the replaced music, there will be a secondary audio track without the rescores.

The time passage edition is for people who want a time gap between the two movies and who watch DigiMod’s version of TFA ending (like myself).

I like it! I don’t have many issues with TFA, so I would be more than happy to watch your standard edition.

Looks pretty seamless my man. Are you going to have her be bubbly, then realize what he is doing, or does she already realize what he is doing in this version?

All the cuts to the conversation are seen in the clip so yeah, she still gets all excited and then realizes what is really up. I will post some clips of the trimmed convo between them in the hallway and then the trimmed Maz convo.

These are all scenes that you need for the subplot, but I thought to myself, “why not trim em up and get rid of the stupid jokes?”, so that’s my basic logic with these cuts.

Cool, I look forward to the Maz scene. And yeah, I’m also more on the side of “trim” rather than “cut”, if that makes sense.

They’re both seamless technically, at least to me. For the Maz one, it may just be me but I feel without that line, Finn and Rose’s look seems a little out of place. It could imply that they are skeptical of whether this guy can do “everything”, maybe? It’s hard to look at it 100% subjectively since I know what it is meant to imply.

Yeah, that is what the shot is meant to now imply. They stare at eachother since 3PO is saying that this is the guy who can do literally anything.

The problem is I really couldn’t find any other shot to work with before we see Maz. I could take a closer look though.

One suggestion I’d make would be to remove the first time Finn and Rose talk at the same time. It’s filler information, and it makes for a funnier joke when Finn looks taken aback when they speak in unison for the second time (or the first time with this cut).

Kylo Pleads to Rey Rescoring - UPDATED

https://vimeo.com/265136372

I tried to build upon many suggestions when I got to finetuning this rescoring.

-Firstly, the music now fades out when we cut to the bridge with Hux. I was able to bridge the rising drums between two points at the end of the piece to do so and it flows pretty well.
-The music has been turned down a notch so that the dialogue can stand out more.
-The music now starts earlier and fades in more gradually.
-The dialogue audio has been polished up.

Please tell me how you all like the updates to the scene!
