The Last Jedi: Legendary (Released) — Page 10

I really like the edit for Snoke’s death! I’m curious if before the clip starts we hear the lines of “Where I sensed conflict, there is resolve” and such. I just wanna make sure those are still in there because I feel they do the most explaining to what extent Snoke can see inside Kylo’s mind.

Great edit though and it really adds a lot more suspense!

Here’s a clip of the battle of Crait. The usual trims others have already made, along with removing Rey’s triple-combo TIE shot.
Not included here is the truncation of Finn’s suicide run, but that’ll happen too.

Hope I’m not being too picky here, but I’d be interested to see if the porg’s scream could be shortened slightly. It’s always gone on a bit too long in my opinion and the music nearly cuts out during the scream so I’d imagine a small edit wouldn’t be particularly difficult.

YES! Thank you! The original cut took away from the moment. That is how it should have been done in the first place. Silly Rian!

Hey Hal, if you are thinking of using any more deleted scenes, I think this is the best use of the deleted scene of the stormtrooper and elevator thus far:

If there’s a way to only use that part of the scene I’d be in for it. I’d love to use the entire scene, but the pre-elevator segments have set extensions missing and do not present as a final product for the big screen, sadly.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I hope you don’t mind, Hal, but I had a go at the Snoke edit with two swapped shots. I don’t think it bothered anyone else but I felt it might be noticeable if we see the saber go from moving to unmoving in consecutive shots, especially since we see it unmoving before Snoke even finishes saying, “I see him turning the lightsaber to strike true…” I also kind of think it gives the impression that Rey gulps or flinches as Snoke says “He ignites it…”

Hey Hal,

It is awesome to see this edit taking shape! I love the balance you’re going for.

I’d be happy to stabilize that crate for you, and let you work on the big stuff. Do you want me to work off my digital copy of the shot or do you have a format I should use to maximize quality? I think my output would be a prores 444 file.

Here’s another attempt at removing the caretakers. It’s better… still not perfect, but it’s as good as I can get it at this sitting.
I don’t have any more time for the present to spend on it, but I think it needs some sort of extra shot between “Let’s get started,” and walking up the stairs. Perhaps a reaction shot from Kylo could be contrived.

Very similar to what I did, works well.

I feel like there needs to be that shot of the caretakers there (or a replacement) in order to show that the Skype call ended.

If you paint out the caretakers in the shot of Rey looking at the damage then it’d be perfect but that requires some serious vfx skills.

I’ll see if I can whip something up 😉

Hey Hal,

Here’s my first pass at stabilizing the crate.

I’ll scrutinize a bit more myself as I think there’s a couple small things I want to fix, but let me know if you see anything. I uploaded the prores file to vimeo, so if you like, you can download the file and slot it into your edit!

Thank god the rocks aren’t very repetitive!

I’ll work on compositing it later. The lens blur in that shot is gonna be fun to figure out. I’ll also try to add a little smoke.
