I’ve been browsing the forums for a while but this is my first time posting. Robocop is one of my favorite movies and I’d love to see a remaster of the film print. I don’t know how much it would cost to scan it (or who would have access to the technology) but it’s currently at $150 plus $200 s&h. I could put up the money to buy it, but don’t know how or where to get it transferred to digital.

For those who are familiar with the quality of prints, is this one worth investing in?

I made comparison with BD, and sadly it’s only the 1.85:1 version…

[Yeah, the only 1.66:1 version is the criterion collection version. The DVD of that is only a small step above VHS quality and the laserdisc is only slightly better than that. Both are non-anamorphic letterbox so resolution is quite bad.]

^^^^Disregard that, I misread your post. Yeah that’s a bummer.

I assume however it’s the theatrical version. The only HD version of that is the unreleased bluray and HDTV broadcasts. Is it still worth the remaster?

According to film cell pictures - that, of course, don’t reflect the actual quality, but gives you an hint - I’d say nope.

I found the 1.66:1 version a while back but there was no interest on here…

I guess if there are also 1.33/1.37:1 release prints around - as there are full screen versions of it (TV, laserdisc).

Yeah you beat me to it, even without comparing it to the BD it looks like it’s hard-matted 1.85:1. The 4K remaster is gorgeous, the only reason to do a print scan of Robocop is if you found a very good print and it was open-matte. And yeah it’ll be the censored theatrical version.
