Episode IX releases in theaters December 2019, so a blu-ray release in 2020, ad sometime after that will be an inevitable new boxed set that includes the entire saga (late 2020? early 2021? other?). I wonder if it will be 4K and will it contain the unaltered originals?
Disney will probably be clever and only include the unaltered originals in the 4K full saga box set. The only way to own the unaltered originals is to also buy Attack Of The Clones - that is the heavy price you must pay!
I cant even begin to imagine how bad some of the CG in the prequels will look in 4K a couple of years from now. I know Star Wars and ‘Special Editions’ don’t have a great track record, but if Disney came out and announced they were modernising the Prequels CGI up to present day standards for a Special Edition then I wouldn’t object!
That is what I am thinking. They will probably release The Force Awakens and Rogue One in 4K first to get all of those purchases, and then Episode IX will go on sale, and sometime after tht the boxed set comes where you will have to buy all of those and the prequels again just to get the Unaltered Original Trilogy in 4K.
I’m part of the problem because I’d gladly prepurchase all of the above today if they posted it today.
Prequel Special Editions? I don’t think that could ever happen. I don’t imagine they would ever let someone else alter George’s work. They might let him come on board to lead the Prequel Special Editions, but would George even be interested? Is he healthy enough to start something like that? As much as I dislike the prequels I’d definity have to check them out if they did do it. As much as I hate the Original Trilogy Special Editions, I’d check new versions of those out too if they made them. Star Wars is pretty much a license to print money.
What I want most are those Unaltered Originals. Not sure how much profit is in it for them so I don;t imagine it’s high on their to-do-list. I hope they do the right thing before I’m too old.
