I’m guessing that the vast majority of students in segregated schools chose them for one of two reasons. One being that Mom or Dad went to this prestigious boys or girls school and now the sons and daughters are going to those respective schools too (most of these private schools have legacies). The second being for religious reasons like avoiding temptations. The latter is a worse reason than the first in my opinion.
