I will only be ranking theatrical releases (anything else was never meant to be on par with the rest of the films). I like all of these movies. It might seem like I hate them but really I’m just nitpicking an otherwise excellent film.

  1. Empire Strikes Back- one of the few movies ever where I wouldn’t change a single thing.
  2. A New Hope- the one that started it all, this will be a classic forever. But over time the age starting to show (unlike Empire which somehow hasn’t aged much for me). And Leia and Vader weren’t very interesting until later. But everything else is amazing.
  3. The Force Awakens- I remember sitting in the theater for the first time reading the crawl, and as I read “Luke Skywalker has vanished” I just knew this would be good- and its often overlooked. The similarities to ANH don’t bother me except for Death Star III. Before TLJ I passed Rey’s powers as ancient heritage, considering the reveal was on TLJ I’ll let it pass. Everything else is really fun.
  4. The Last Jedi- Parts of this movie I love, parts I hate. It took me a while to place it. My problem isn’t what most people point too, but rather how poorly Rey was handled. She has no real arc and disappears for a while at the end. During the “give me my hand” scene I found myself routing for Kylo.
  5. Return of the Jedi- This movies doesn’t have a clear focus, the first part is about getting Han and the second about a Death Star 2. But Luke’s turn to the dark side is my favorite moment in the entire saga. ROTJ is an enjoyable adventure worthy of the Star Wars name.
  6. Revenge of the Sith- It’s filled with cringy dialogue and one confusing plot, but ROTS has a vision, unlike the lower 3. John Williams brings it up with great music and while there are way too many lightsabers duels (5, equal to all the other Lucas movies combined) they are entertaining. Plus this paved the way for TCW, a great show.
  7. Rogue One- The action is spectacular, but everything else flops. The characters are boring and the plot is more stupid than ROTS. Most importantly, it lacks vision. My first viewing was a lot of fun- my second and third were boring. They should have done something different- maybe the entire movie a heist for the plans? Idk. K2SO and Vader were the only additions to the SW universe I liked.
  8. The Phantom Menace- Not a very good movie, but you can still watch it for mild enjoyment. The final duel is amazing, and that’s it for positives.
  9. Attack of the Clones- What is the overall plot? Who are the characters? What is the theme? Is there any real props? Did the finale accomplish anything? What is the point of AOTC? All good questions. AOTC only exists to bridge the gap between TPM and ROTS, and it shows. This movie isn’t worth my time.
  10. The Clone Wars Movie- No.
