That's certainly possible, if it used a better Laserdisc source than the 1-LD Criterion edition.

That's actually not a bad idea. For the price of your unopened set, you might be able to get an opened set as well as an excellent VCR. Maybe Silverwook can point you in the right direction, since I know he's in contact with a lot of collectors.

while its true that these are worth more sealed to collectors, it may be actually better to remove the plastic wrap.

as many of you know from one of my other posts i have a friend that works over in the Library of Congress. She is working cataloguing various vinyls. and sometimes she gets rare discs that are still shrink wrapped and she commented to me how she kinda feels bad because she knows she is reducing the price by like 90%. but she went on to say that the plastic shrinks over time (this is more of a problem for older plastics) and can cause the disc to warp...i dont know how much of a problem this could cause for vhs or laserdisc as records are much less sturdy than these, but it is something to keep in mind/consider. Maybe if collectors really knew the open stuff would be worth more...

Even the 2-disc Criterion Blade Runner has more grain than a silo during harvest season... I found it extremely difficult to get a good anamorphic image out of it, it was a really fine balance between a grainy picture and a smeary picture (temporal smoothing), I opted in favour of the grain.

Hi guys,
I was wondering if anybody has a good LD to DVD transfer of "Howard the Duck"?
Sorry if this has been mentioned before. I couldn't find it in a search.
Anyway, I've always wanted to see this movie again, as I haven't seen it in years.....
I've thought about buying a copy from ebay, but I was just wondering if anybody knew of any good torrent for it.
Anyway, thanks, and keep up the good work!

I'm extremely interested in that Godfather Trilogy set, if it's possible when that's done would you be willing to upload that to MySpleen?

The Godfather Trilogy does indeed sound intriguing. My question is: would a copy sourced from new tapes through a Super VHS machine come close to what we have come to expect from a decent Laserdisc transfer?

My guess is we'd have to go the whole hog and give it the Frighteners treatment.

The one film I'd love a DVD conversion of Bad Channels.

Anyone have this one?

This film was never released here in the UK in any format, or at the cinema or even been shown on TV as far as I'm aware.

I believe he mentioned that it (Godfather trilogy) was also on LD, and he was thinking about selling his VHS set and buying the LD. Sorry if I read that wrong, but that's what I thought.

Maybe you missed the "including dead torrents" checkbox on the Search page ?

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

so if eliasbboy is selling his VHS and trading "up" for an LD version of the Godfather Trilogy 1901-1980, then maybe we can get a "volunteer" to do an LD transfer, and get this out there to the public at large? a la the frighteners directors cut.

i'd gladly pitch in a couple bucks to defer any and all involved costs...including compensating the transferer for his/her time. this is something i would LOVE to have in my collection.

I wonder how many discs we'd have to make this? I mean, damn, that's three 3-hour-plus films put together PLUS deleted scenes ... the official DVDs were 4 discs for all three films ...

I'd definitely donate to this cause after I get money to donate to the X0 project.

Another thing I'd like to see is "The Godfather: The Complete Epic 1901 - 1959," which was made in the early eighties before III came out. Same kind of deal as "The Godfather Trilogy 1901 - 1980" except without III, and with less added footage. I believe the "Epic" was released on LD as well, though I can't find it on eBay.

Yeah, that's the Trilogy set. It's all 3 films edited in chronological order as one movie with additional scenes. There's an older one, before III came out, with just I and II, and less deleted scenes added but some of the scenes in that one (the "Epic") are not in the "Trilogy" version.

I've got bids on a couple of sets, so hopefully I will win one. I just got the good news that my wife is pregnant, which means my "free funds" account just shrunk drastically, so I'm not going to go crazy here. If I get a set, I'll try digging out my laserdisc player and see how it works, otherwise, I would be more than willing to send them to somebody who could do a more credible job.

This, again, is all based on me getting a set, but I really am not going to go too crazy with a future tax deduction on the way.

I'll let you guys know.
