Laserman,

I'd be interested if you could PM me about the newsgroup scene and how to get started. Also, is it true that you reside in Australia? I am in Australia and have long wanted someone whom I could possibly get the SW DVDs from (fan-edits, preservation discs, etc), because the torrents chew up my download limit, and paying for postage from America is ridiculous. Please PM me so that we can talk further.

Also, just wanted to congratulate everyone on doing this. I didn't catch the donation info, but I am very interested in the project and can't wait to see how it turns out. To those organising this; will the LD packaging be scanned? I'm sure that a nice jewel-case cover could be made from some hi-res scans of the packaging. I can understand if it's unopened that this won't happen, but I think it's a used LD, isn't it?

It is a used set, yes, and I will be scanning all of the covers and liner notes. I will forward these materials to Rik (and to anyone else who wants them) to make covers.

Here's the current string of sending: eBay guy -> me for scanning -> Karyudo (this is only a possibility, but he can do a direct hard rip of the AC3 from the LD, where as MeBe cannot) -> MeBeJedi for transfer -> to whoever buys it when it's put back up for auction.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

That's odd - I send DVD's to Oz all the time for only $5 for upto 15 plain DVD's and I've now sent my external HD down there twice to a Datsun buddy (racing footage and automotive PDF's) for only $10 each time using the large Global Flat Rate with the HD packed on a HD sized box. (upto 4 pounds ) - I think he said it cost $12 to send it back to me.

Are you guys getting and shipping stuff shipped via Express or what? I did THAT once and it cost me $36!

Send them to me for the DVD menus.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Donation made. I hope this helps. I'm really looking forward to this one as I've been as huge fan of this movie since it came out and I've never had the chance to see the director's cut.

Thanks much, keyz! This set should be on its way to me right now. Immediately when I get back from my vacation, I will scan the liners and send them to Rik, MeBe, Laserschwert and anyone else who requests them. Email is preferred over PM, my PM space keeps filling up.

Also, for those interested in a set when it's finished, we will perhaps devise a pay-it-forward system, or maybe just a tree. Or are they the same thing? I don't know. Either way, free distribution, no buying and selling of this, though I'm sure it'll wind up on eBay sooner or later.

Here's a big THANK YOU to all who donated, we're definitely in the clear now in terms of funding. I predict about 3-4 weeks before this is available. It will be worth the wait.

MeBe, any word from Karyudo on the AC3 rip? Of better yet, Karyudo, you reading?

Yeah, I'm reading. If the discs come my way, I can cap the AC-3 and then send 'em on. It's been a while since I hooked everything up and did an AC-3 session, but it shouldn't take long to get it all going again.

3-4 weeks! That's very quick for a project of this size. I'll definately pay-it-forward as much as I can. Looking forward to seeing it, and sooner than I thought apparently. All the best to ReverendBeastly, Karyudo, MeBeJedi, Rikter and the many more that made this happen, great work team!

Man, just caught this thread. I have been dreaming about this project yaers ago! I own a criterion se7en on laserdisc (for the different supplementals) and would love to see that one day as well. When the frighteners is available, count me in! :-)

Holy crap you guys are my heros. I just found this thread and it's amazing how quickly and concisely you guys planned and launched this idea. It resembles a military operation. I have never in my life been part of a forum or online community so completely polite and helpful. If anything else is needed as far as donations or seeding, count me in for either. I have a pretty good cable connection and it's dormant 20 hours out of the day, so I can seed till the cows come home.

Thanks again for all your hard work on this and all the many other projects I have enjoyed from you all!

Well I was just tinkering around with some images I found online of the laserdisc scans. I found some decent scans of the laserdisc cover so I threw this DVD cover together for it. If for whatever reason my bandwidth gets used up (and it will) just PM me and i'll email this to you.

A lot of that stuff is squeezed in that picture, not just the universal logo.

Yeah I just went here...

http://www.horrordvds.com/reviews/a-m/frighteners-ld/

and picked up the orginal Laserdisc art. I then moved some stuff around, cut some stuff out and added a DVD Video Logo and made a spine for it with heal brush and clone stamp. I then just shrunk the whole thing down to fit DVD cases. I did nothing special with this and I didn't even try to avoid squeezing anything thing.

That cover looks mightily nice, and I bet it will look even better when a few of you are able to work with the scans I'm going to do. Still away right now, but just checking in to see how everything is on the board.

Hire MeBeJedi! I saw that in a store the other week and didn't buy it because 1) I didn't have any money and 2) I didn't think I'd have a way to transfer it. I'd love to see the extra supplements (outtakes, dailies!) from that set.

I have the Criterion SE7EN and the criterion Trainspotting, that however has been released on DVD with all supplementals intact I believe. what I DON'T have and that I would love to see is the Criterion "Close Ecounters Of The Third Kind"... from what I understand, this is the closest to the original theatrical cut , and you have to program your laserdic player to watch all the chapters in the right order or something. I also has a TON of stills/art etc...

Hi guys, how's the project doing? This is a very interesting one! Tell me, what should I do to get a copy for myself when it's done?!!!

I worked at a movie theatre years ago when Frighteners came out. Since I was one of the projectionist at the time, I was in charge of making sure all the movie posters were current on Thursday night for the Friday releases. One of the best movie posters I ever saw was the 3D poster for the Frighteners. All of our customers could not take their eyes off this awesome poster and I was lucky enough to take it home with me when the movie left our theatre (only two weeks later ).

Anyways, I have always really liked this movie and Peter Jackson so I am very interested in this project. I saw these LDs years ago (college friend had them) and remember really enjoying them. If you guys need any more money for shipping or other fees, let me know because I would love to contribute to the preservation of this set. PM me or e-mail me at phuckaduck at gmail.com

I now have hung up my 3D Frighteners poster in my movie room in anticipation of watching this great set again.

I never even seen the cover of the VHS but the poster is the same for the cover on the Signature Collection of the Frighteners LD (and on the DVD ) . Of course it is poster size and does not have all that writing on it.

I use to see it go for $300 on ebay but it has been awhile since I have seen one on there. And I believe that the poster type is called lenticular (which makes the 3D effect).

I can try and take some pics of it if you guys want to see it.
