Citizen - I'm extremely interested in anything Bladerunner, especially getting my hands on a decent copy of the Criterion PAL LD on DVD or even an NTSC conversion. Please PM me or email to davidian (at) slingshot.co.nz.

Cheers man.

hi davidian i just ripped my Blade Runner Criterion LD and it has a VERY basic menu with "blade runner blues"from blade runner esper edition 2 disc sound track playing in the background, and has generic chapter stops still learning how to put them where they are suppose to go,but how many people use this function any way?and also ripped a fullscreen version too,but this was from a single LD and doesnt look as good as the criterion widescreen does, but it is the same film version as the criterion 2 disc set.
if you are interested let me know,i am finishing up on my adigitalman pay-it-forward set to my 3 people soon, and i still have to capture the 97'special edition return of the jedi, to complete my 97 special edition set i have been working on,all 3 films on a single dvdr and a bonus disc(4 disc set) with the trailer to all 3 films and the making of.

I have been talking to someone who has generated a DVDr of his own from his laserdisc edition of Song of the South.
Can't say what the quality is or really much detail at all. He was going to start a divx torrent but I'm trying to convince him to torrent a DVD image.

It'll be posted on Demonoid.com in the next few days I believe. PM me if anyone wants details.

Does anyone know if there's an LD transfer of "Grand Prix", the 1966 Frankenheimer racing movie starring James Garner, out there someplace?

What about Close Encounters Of The Fird Kind 1977 Original version? I know it was released on LD, is it available as DVD or has somebody made an LD transfer to DVD or is going to?

A DVDR (widescreen, anamorphic) of the original Blade Runner cut (Criterion) was posted on MySpleen a while back.

I don't know the 'history' of the rip, or if it is of interest to the folk here, but someone has posted a 2 CD divx3 torrent of the original/unedited/restored version of Andrei Tarkovsky's 1972 film "Solyaris" (aka Solaris) on Demonoid. Includes srt files for English subtitles.

I was talking about this in the off topic forum, but I thought I might as well post it here, too. I have an unopened VHS edition of the Godfather Trilogy: 1901-1980. It is 6 tapes, the 6th being bonus features. Here is the description from the case:

"Under the supervision of dierector Francis Francis Ford Coppola, the Three Godfather films have been interwoven into one production. This deluxe, leatherbound set also includes "The Godfather Family: A Look inside" and a comprehensive booklet filled with photos and never before seen archive materials from Coppola's private collection."

This is NOT the Godfather Epic. That is 1 and 2 combined. This is a limited set of 5000 that has all THREE combined. I can already picture a cover based on a family tree I once saw drawn on old on paper. My only concerns are a) opening the set for the first time, but really, what good is an unopened movie? It's like a virgin prostitute. And b basically screwing it up. I don't have much of a capture card, just an ATI all-in-wonder. I do have a stand alons dvd recorder I use like a vcr. It has svideo connections, and I have an svhs vcr, so I may try doing it that way.

Is it worth trying? Or is the interest not that great? Let me know. Thanks.

Whereas I would love to see the results of such an effort, if I were in your shoes I'd want to know what the unopened limited edition box set would go for on the open market to a collector .vs. an opened one (even if only played once to do the capture - though how you'd prove that I don't know).

And assuming I decided to go through with it, I'd practice with something else until I had the methodology to get a good capture down pat, so I really would only play them once.

I wonder what the equivalent to the "X0 player" is for vhs tapes...

That's actually not a bad idea. For the price of your unopened set, you might be able to get an opened set as well as an excellent VCR. Maybe Silverwook can point you in the right direction, since I know he's in contact with a lot of collectors.

In regards to all these Criterion Laserdiscs, I'd love to see some of the commentaries ripped and maybe posted as mp3 or whatever files. Many of these tracks never made it to DVD because Criterion no longer has the rights to release them. It's a shame to know that many of these commentaries will die on laserdisc. Even posting them as mp3 files can give people the chance to sync them up to their DVD's and listen to them much like the fan commentaries you can find on the web.

For better or worse, Ebay is pretty much the standard for what something is worth these days. And closed auction listings usually are a good indicator of what someone will pay for a rare video. That particular Godfather set was released on LD though.

Alrighty then. you are absolutely correct. My new forum alias will be "mr.misinformed" from this point forward.

Can someone explain to me why a VHS set like mine is going for $300+, but yet I just but a bid on a LD set for $30?

Also, if you have an answer to the above question, could you further explain to my why I have placed said bid, given the fact that the only LD player I own is older that dirt and is actually a "top loader" that more than likely does not work anymore? Maybe I should reconsider "mr.misinformed" and just go with "mr.impulsive".

Some people are blissfully unaware of Laserdiscs. And Ebay is P.T. Barnum's fever dream?
As for old players, my top loader dates from 1983 and works just fine. It actually is better for some older problem discs in my collection. If yours turns out to be dead, there are a few decent models from the 90's to be had on Ebay often overlooked by the home theater crowd.

Alfredsson,

What's the quality like on your set? And if I'm not mistaken it was the workprint & international cuts along with the doco, yes? If you know a little about BR, could you please explain to me (via PM if you wish) the difference between the theatrical & director's cuts compared to the international. My understanding is that the international is an extended/more violent version of the theatrical cut, yes? In any case, please PM me as I would like to obtain this set.

-Tyrell's death scene is more graphic with two additional shots of Batty's thumbs poking Tyrell's eyes.
-Additional footage of the fight between Deckard and Pris. This version shows Pris inserting two fingers into Deckard's nose and pulling it backward. It also shows Deckard ------shooting Pris 3 times to kill her, whereas the Domestic & Director's Cut versions only show him shooting her twice.
-Additional shot of Batty pushing the nail through the palm of his hand and then showing it come through the back of it.
-Deckard's narration and happy ending included.

If you think you've seen those mountain vistas in the Blade Runner "happy ending" somewhere before, it's because it's unused footage from Kubrick's The Shining! Hopefully, Deckard wasn't taking Rachel to the Overlook Hotel.
