Just wondering if there are any Firefly/Serenity fans on these boards. Who's looking forward to the movie?

I think Firefly is one of the greatest television shows ever put on. I watched it when it was on originally and it ticked me off when they cancelled it. I've been watching the DVD's and seeing the episodes I might have missed. Hopefully, the movie will do well and there will be some interest in either resurrecting the television show on another network or the Sci Fi channel or there can be a series of movies, like Star Trek.
Joss Whedon is a great artist who continually makes intelligent, complex work(except maybe Alien Ressurection). The cast, especially Nathan Fillian, was superb and deserves more work.

My wife and I are both Firefly fans. I love the DVDs.

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
<span class=“Bold”>JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
<span class=“Bold”>Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.</span>

@ GlopOfGrease: From what I understand the Alien script he wrote was really good, but whoever made the movie tore it to shreads. I agree, I love pretty much everything he's done. Was a huge Buffy fan, not much of an Angel fan (mostly watched just the 5th season) and I really loved Firefly. The only thing I'm not too fond of is the 1st Buffy movie, that was pretty bad. I can't wait to see what he does with Wonder Woman though.

@ MeBeJedi & Shimraa: Very cool to see you guys are fans as well. Since it appears there aren't too many fans on these boards I was thinking of "sharing" the DVDs to convert more fans. I'm sure a lot of people on these boards would dig the show, what do you guys think?

That's where copying the discs come in. I'd never hand out my sets, just burn a couple of the 1st 2 discs then the person can rent/buy the series if they like it. I'm not really friends with anybody on these boards but if you are and GlopOfGrease & MeBeJedi is I highly recommend on "sharing" the set if you have the means to. I'm sure lots of people on these boards would really dig the show, but have never gotten the chance to watch it.

On and btw, the show is going to reair (or really air for the 1st time as how it was meant to) on the Sci Fi network Friday, July 22 at 7PM leading up to their Friday night lineup. So you can tell people to start watching them w/o having to lend them your discs. I can't wait for Battle Star Gallactica to start up again, that's the best Sci Fi show in years and one of my favorite shows.

Serenity officially has a PG-13 now.
Which is the more foolish, the fool (the OT) or the fool who follows (the PT)?

"From what I understand the Alien script he wrote was really good, but whoever made the movie tore it to shreads."

I liked Resurrection (with a few minor quibbles.) How was the original script different?

I didn't read the script myself, but from reading bits on AICN it's pretty well known the original script was much better then what we actually saw on screen. Found this on Whedonesque and some quotes are:

Chirp wrote:Okay I just finished the script. It's pretty rough, but it is obvious this is vastly superior to the story in the film, which I am watching RIGHT NOW. The story ENDS ON EARTH. Ripley fighting the Newborn (for whom she feels no maternal bond). That is emotional profundity, and a direct approach to the intent of the whole Alien series-- stopping these things from killing us all. Most importantly, Ripley has a character arc. She accepts her humanity after the clone/freak show scene. Thus, she's not left chewing scenery.
I think this movie was probably WAY TOO EXPENSIVE too shoot. I understand why it got changed, though I wish it hadn't.

EdDantes wrote:Half way through the script myself, but it's clear it got butchered in the moviemaking. Many basic things are stil there but they're altered in such a way, that what was good about them or what point they had, is taken out. It's also been considerably toned down in darkness, violence and language. Gotta appeal to the families when making sf/horror about fighting and killing horrid alien monsters ya know.

And yes, matter of fact, they did run out of budget. Joss once said he had to rewrite the end about 3 times. They had no money for any of it.

Not sure if this script is the real deal, but you can read it here if your interested.

Don't forget to share those Firefly discs!
