Attack of the Clones - Centropy Theatrical Telesync "Remastered" (Released) — Page 2

The Phantom Menace scan got funded, I’m sure they’d be enough intrest in one of Episode II. But I think poita has enough on his plate currently with him doing the 97SE Trilogy and Episode I.

I mean, I donated for the TPM scan, but I don’t know if I’d be willing to cough up even half as much for AOTC. Maybe if it was the IMAX cut…

If you want the IMAX cut, I think it’s been remade and put up somewhere, probably on the Spleen or something. But I’d be interested in a scan of the 35mm. It’d lay a lot of rumours to rest, mainly the extra speeders and the Jango Fett jetpack thing. I’d also be interesting in seeing the practical mechanical hand in better quality. I’d definitly donate to it

Oh, I’d be interested, but more in a historical curiosity sort of way. It is, after all, the worst Star Wars movie.

And the IMAX cut recreation is based on sketchy notes about what was cut that may or may not be accurate - an actual copy of the IMAX cut itself (either on 70mm film or as a cam copy or something) would be awesome to have.

This is huge. Did one of you guys buy it? The listing is now closed. I’d happily donate to help get this captured.

It actually sold before a month ago, but apparently the buyer bailed.

Just search for centropy.
Only result I saw.

The part when he’s talking about killing the sandpeople and Padme said “To be angry is to be human” and most of that scene was a DVD addition IIRC

Which parts of that scene were DVD additions?

It’s been a few years since I listened to it but I’m certain the AOTC audio commentary confirms that the jetpack sparks were increased in number for the home video releases, in order to make it clear to the audience that Fett was attempting to escape Windu’s attack but the unit was damaged.

The “To be angry is to be human” and the “I’m a Jedi, I should be better”.

Here’s a full list of stuff added, changed or cut on DVD and Blu-Ray

  • When Obi-Wan and Anakin speed through the power couplings, the shots have been swapped around on the BR
  • When Obi-Wan grabs Anakin’s lightsaber out of the air during the speeder chase, there were some more speeders in the shot in the theatrical
  • Shmi’s voice during Anakin’s nightmare was added on the BR
  • Padme saying “To be angry is to be human” and Anakin’s “I’m a Jedi, I should be better” after he kills the Tuskan Raiders was added on the DVD
  • More sparks have been added to Jango’s jetpack after the Reek stomps on him on the DVD
  • When Padme falls out of the gunship into the dunes, a clone trooper asks her if she is alright, in the Theatrical she says “Yes”, while in subsequent releases she says “Uh huh”
  • Dooku’s escape has some rearranged shots on the BR
  • During the wedding, Anakin’s hand wasn’t CGI and barely moved in the theatical before being changed to CGI for the DVD

There were some colour changes too from the DVD to the BR, mainly a blanket green tint. Just from looking at the Centropy copy, its clear that the DVD is more accurate to the theatrical colour timing

This seems really great. I’m looking forward to when this is released. The old one on the spleen never works for me. None of the video players I use work for the type of file it is. I assume whenever you do put it out it’ll be mkv, mp4 or something along those lines ?

All my life as I looked away to the future, to the horizon. Never in my mind did I know where I was, what I was doing.

Bobson Dugnutt, I appreciate what you are doing.

But the perspective adjustment, even if technically correct, it is not the only possible way to fix it…

Yes, there is another unorthodox method to get the perspective right, preserving more details on both sides, at the cost of diagonal lateral sides…

top Bobson Dugnutt, middle mine (using PAL SVCD), bottom HDTV:

as you can see, the perspective is (more or less) in line, while there are more image on both “triangular slices” at the sides; also, image is a bit better due to increased resolution of PAL SVCD (480x576) in comparison to VCD (352x240/288). NOTE: final version will got both top quadrilateral vertices touching the screen sides, here they are moved to align with the HDTV.

Now, if someone could be interested in a such bizarre version (that, techically, is another UAR), please let me know.

Wait, you actually have the svcd? I thought that was lost to the ages.

So, which version of AOTC is better? The 35mm or the digital?

The 70mm IMAX cut is probably the best offical cut of the film, but the 35mm is probably the next best thing. It has one less cringy line and smaller better thing

If someone is interested in the bizarre UAR version, a 8m15s 160MB test clip is ready - drop me a PM for the link!

So I watched the test clip and I can say that the aspect ratio was a little distracting at first but I quickly got used to it. I am one of those people who want to see every little bit of image information so I this is a nice addition, even if the AR is a little weird. Since the AR is consistent throughout the entire movie (presumably) I don’t think it will bother many people.

I’ve got to echo what Pickle said, especially the part about this being good for those of us who want to see every detail. I watched the clip, and it’s honestly overall more enjoyable than watching the original Centropy release. Thanks for putting in the effort. If you could make the entire thing like that, I’d love that. Until we get that film reel from eBay, this might have to do…

Would the SVCD be identical to what was pressed onto DVD bootlegs, if not better quality? I’ve got the original physical release of the Centropy VCD, but I also have about 10 or 11 copies of the CAM rip pressed onto various bootleg DVDs from back in the day too.

It’s hard to say without knowing the origin of the bootlegs. From what I recall, Centropy was putting out unique telesyncs and not ripping black market bootlegs. So presumably those DVDs (Hong Kong silvers and such) were made from the SVCD and not the other way around.
