Revenge of the Jedi (The Snooker edit) (Cancelled: *unfinished project *) — Page 7

Proposed Luke “Sister” storyline.

Obi Wan talks to Luke and he mentions his twin sister. The conversation ends after Ben says “your sister remains safely anonymous…”

Luke and Leia’s conversation on Endor (after Luke says that he must leave to confront Vader):

“He’s my Father”

“Your father?”

“The Force is strong in my family… my father has it, I have it, my sister has it…”

“No! Luke, run away. Far away!”

And the rest of the conversation continues as normal with Han stepping in to hug Leia (without jealousy)

Luke’s sister isn’t mentioned until the end by Vader.

That version of Luke’s conversation with Leia sounds very jarring. Personally, I’d just cut any mention of his sister from that conversation, since I don’t see any way it could be included naturally.

I wouldn’t mention the sister at all. I’d go as far as cutting Obi-Wan. The whole scenes feels… strange. In ESB he was always lurking around, telling people things through the force. He only shows up to help Yoda convince Luke not to leave. But in ROTJ he just shows up and has a full on conversation with Luke. Sort of takes away from his scarifce- Ben could have tought Luke as a ghost without Yoda. And then there’s the conversation itself, home to certain point of view, ghost on a log, and the sister reveal. I think it would be much more powerful if when Yoda dies Luke truly is alone.

I think retaining Luke and Leia’s connection is really important. It gives Luke one of his best moments in the saga when he freaks out at Vader taunting him. I also don’t really think having Vader be “The other” works. I like Luke being the only one to see good in his father, and if Yoda knows that Vader can be turned halfway through Empire, it loses some of the impact of Luke being on his own.

This is a really tough thing. The only reason why Luke’s lashout at Vader has any weight is because Vader is threatening Leia, someone that Luke knows and loves. Also I have never personally had an issue with Luke being Leia’s brother.

We shall see what decision I ultimately make.

Here’s another quick preview. Keep in mind that the actual wipe is unfinished 😃

Now I’d already intended to cut the sister aspect from my edit, but cutting Obi-Wan from that scene altogether is an idea I hadn’t considered, and definitely worth looking into.

This is looking really really good snooker. I like the wipe but think it’d be better if it was a little bit faster.

And I personally never had that huge a problem with the siblings either, I just think we’d be better off without it, specially because I find it hard to believe Luke and Leia are the same age in Star Wars. But that’s about it.

I hate the sibling twist more than anything else in SW. It feels contrived, universe-shrinking, and ultimately pointless.

As to how Vader could provoke Luke (which is actually the alleged reason for including the twist in the first place), he does say the Dark Side is the only way to save his friends. Okay, I’ll admit that’s pretty weak, but I’d let it slide to not make them siblings any day. That said, I’d certainly prefer a better cause of provocation.

Which one do you think much younger? They look roughly the same age to me, but I’m curious.

Yeah, I quickly threw this together so that I could upload a preview! 😕

Normally wipes are 1 second and I had to make this one 2 or else I would have had to put in some effort!

Edit: Here’s a thought: use those awesome whale sound effects from TLJ as the cloaking sound effect of the Eclipse.

Also can anyone splice together some C3PO dialogue to make him say “Where is General Solo?” or something? Thanks!

I know, no worries! Looks great nonetheless.

How about instead of saying “twin sister” Vader says “the princess” or something like that? Then take out the dialogue of “Obi-Wan hiding her from him”, and just make the “if you won’t turn to the dark side perhaps she will” still be about Leia, but not sister Leia.

In the end I won’t mind if she’s still Luke’s sister at all though, I simply think that the idea of making her not be his sister is worth considering.

I’m pretty sure Luke was supposed to be in his early twenties and Leia was supposed to be 16 in Star Wars.

I just came in to your project and so far; I’ve liked it! Especially your prieviews for the new Star Destroyer, however I would like to give a quick suggestion, is it possible to add some sort of slight motion blur (in-post or however you do it) it’s a little thing that can give more life to the new animated scenes.

I knew that something was missing! I did a quick test and I think you’re right about it giving new life! Thank you!

I will upload a gif later with all vfx shots updated to include motion blur.

Does anyone know where I could find an HD version of the Raiding the Bunker deleted scene? Thanks!

I think another way to make it a bit more real is a (slightly) subtle white glow around the ships like in Rogue One, it gives a nice look to the ships.

While that would make it look the best it would then stick out more from the 1983 footage. Keep in mind that I want everything to blend and fit in nicely.

You wouldn’t believe how happy I am to hear that!

My next course of action will be to storyboard the entire final act to find out how many new shots I need to make. The Han death sequence is pretty much mapped out in my brain, too. This may take a while to actually finish, but it’s so satisfying to create something and have people like it!

JEDIT: Here’s the Emperor scene again with fixed wipe and with added BLUR
