I really hope someone involved can afford that. Fingers crossed…

As do I.
Affording it is one thing. Do you we have somebody willing to do the scanning and post-processing? Even if it were just the one ~30 second scene?
Ohhh… I drink to that!
So, there’s a laserdisc up for bids on eBay.
Is there anyone willing and able to capture and share this (preferably in the US) if I throw a bid in? I’d need their delivery details up front.
Hopefully it goes for a little less than the 16mm print did…
I can capture it and I’m in the USA. 😃
If that falls through we might get better results from a Beta Hi-Fi if it’s in good shape.

I’ll keep an eye on that, too, since my budget is limited and I could very well be outbid on the LD.
Would the stereo track from the DVD be worth going after as well? There has been more than one DVD edition, so not sure which one is the go to for that track.

Good question. I believe I have the US “Panty Raid” edition on DVD, which is meant to have the stereo track. I’d have to take a look through my collection to confirm it hasn’t gone missing in the past 10 years.

I’ve got that very laserdisc. I can capture it this week.

Can you turn off CX noise reduction in your player? Some later models make this difficult to do.

I am planning to use my CLD-D504. It shouldn’t be a problem, but if it is I have a couple of older (backup) players that I could use.

Nice! Maybe I can then concentrate on acquiring the Beta HiFi tape instead?
Here is my first go at the deleted scene.
The entire capture went smoothly, but the encoder dropped a few frames on the “enhanced” version. I can share the raw cap if someone wants it.

I remember it was quite a nice track, and encoded out to Dolby Surround if I remember correctly.

Can you do a side by side comparison with the cut version? Just so those of us who haven’t seen the movie in a long time get a sense of what needs to be restored?

I haven’t ripped my blu-ray. I can, but it should be fairly simple. This is the first frame before the deleted scene, and IIRC the part where they start cleaning the house at the end should be in the cut.
Good work, MWilson.
For those who are unsure, pretty much every shot in that brief sequence that includes the phone number on the For Rent sign (besides the long shot in the gym) has been chopped. It, of course, makes the scene almost unintelligible.
Looks like I missed the beta tape by just a coupla minutes. Should’ve paid closer attention. There were no bids so we’ll see if it comes around again.
I’ll hunt for that DVD soon (just moved house and my discs are still boxed up). Was it just the audio we were after?
Did anyone here buy the ebay 16mm copy that was posted awhile back?
Here is a clip off of YouTube that shows the cut.
I think someone would have said something by now. Surprised it went as high as it did.

That’s a nasty cut once you’ve seen the original. Even in the 80’s they could have optically blurred the number out. Grease has had the coke signs in the Frosty Palace scenes blurred out since 1978. I’ve been told the 40th anniversary version has digitally inserted Pepsi signs since Paramount is apparently still too cheap to just cut Coca Cola a check.

So, the Beta tape came back around as a Buy It Now listing. I pulled the trigger so it should hopefully be on its way to you shortly, SilverWook. Hopefully that HiFi track is in good shape and there’s not too many drop-outs during the (post) panty-raid sequence!
Thanks for the heads up! Time to get my Betamax behemoth out of mothballs!
