Just want to know some info about it like what does nrc means and did the original vhs only say Star wars? I took a picture of it but can’t figure how to add a picture here.

Oh. I believe that the first time it said “A New Hope” on the cover was for the 1995 Faces VHS Boxset release. And it wasn’t even on the actual cover, only on the sides. Before that it was only labeled as “Star Wars”.

here’s the faces boxset:

Here’s what most US releases of Star Wars on VHS looked like:

Seems to be an Australian one and from the 80s. Couldn’t find another one after a bit of googling.

Yep it’s Star Wars for real. What is NRC? Like an age rating?

Wikipedia says:

The Australian Classification Board was created in 1970 to classify or rate all films (and later in 1994, video games) that came into Australia. In the early years of the system, beginning on November 15, 1971, there were four ratings:

G for General Exhibition, carried over from the previous ratings system
NRC Not Recommended for Children (previously X, A or Not Suitable for Children. This later became PG for Parental Guidance)
M for Mature Audiences (Previously SOA or Suitable Only for Adults. This later became M 15+ from the late 1980s until 2005)
R for Restricted Exhibition (later became R 18+ in the late 1980s)

Australia is weird.

That’s not even accurate. They forgot MA 15+.

Not enough people read the EU.

I love that old VHS artwork. The DVDs and blu-rays for the OT and the PT has been one Photoshop abortion after another.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Well, if it wasn’t from the 80s you would’ve paid too much. But considering there wasn’t a similar VHS to be found from googling, I think you made a good buy. VideoCollector has the rental version which I think is the first AUS release. Not sure what yours is, as most 80s videos were for rental in most countries at least… There probably is a year on the back somewhere. Maybe there is an aussie to help you out.

Only years i see are 1977 20th century fox film, 1982 20th century fox video and 1983 CBS/Fox company.

I have the original release of Star Wars on vhs. This is what the box looks like:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jWw7eU7KrU8/TrdPIfyYb8I/AAAAAAAAAp0/afJqbpSUnww/s1600/Star+Wars+VHS+cover+1982.jpg

The box is wider than the tape itself, which was common in those days (my copy of The Muppet Movie is the same). Instead of sliding out the bottom, there was a “drawer” that you would pull out from the side that contained the tape so the box had to be a bit wider to accommodate the extra cardboard for the drawer (in the far right pic you can see the edge of the drawer poking out a bit).

Strange that the site didn’t have pics of the 1995 THX Widescreen Edition Box Set, I used to have that one:

One thing I like about the Star Wars saga are the planets, especially the ones wet with rain, hahaha! Kamino, Eadu, and Ach-To - all three of them have enormous amounts of rain, it seems. 😃
