Discussion: Have you Bought TLJ Action Figures?

Don’t know if people wander into here much (I don’t) but seems the most appropriate place. Have you bought TLJ figures - if so which ones?

I haven’t bought figures since…forever. On a whim some number of years back I bought a nice looking Wicket figure. The collecting value definitely isn’t there for me. The new toys seem particularly uninspired to me, but curious if others here like them and why.

Gracias, mis amigos.

Apparently it wasn’t a good Holliday season in terms of Star Wars toys. I’ve seen shelves with all of the action figures still there, and no one even looking at them or wanting to buy them. I certainly didn’t.

There weren’t a whole lot of new characters with what Kenner used to call toyetic qualities. Other toy lines are slumping, so it’s not just Star Wars. All the clickbait articles I’ve seen thus far have been pushing the same TLJ was a flop crap and pointing at toy sales as proof.

When you see six year-olds with their faces buried in the digital devices in their hands already, who’s left that wants to play with action figures these days?

Nice word, “toyetic.” I wonder if this movie appeals to kids less than other SW movies, for the same reasons. I feel R1 wasn’t a very toyetic movie either. Also the idea I’ve heard that the market is over saturated makes sense. I intend to keep my kids away from screens much as possible, that’s just terrible.

Randomly decided to by a cheap Finn figure on eBay before TFA. Was probably the first time I had gotten a toy in about a decade. Figured I’d do the same for TLJ, got a Rey.

TLJ didn’t have many exciting characters/new offerings. The First Order Troopers were all the same (since the film took place a day later). Rey, Finn, Poe didn’t see much change. Snoke’s character is dead halfway through. DJ was no Lando. There was no new Yoda for this part. Even Luke didn’t have a lightsaber until the very end, and they didn’t sell that figure.

At least with Rogue One, there were new Troopers, new Droid, new characters (Baze/Krennic/etc). With the new saga films, I’m sure for most kids, once you’ve bought a Kylo and a First Order trooper, you’ve got all you probably wanted.

Star Wars toys are a dying breed it seems.

I’ve been a Star Wars toy collector for a couple decades and I’ve never seen it this bad, it’s unprecedented.

The 90s POTF figures flew off the shelves and the PT figures were even crazier. Want a Darth Maul in '99? Good joke.
Pop into Toys 'R Us in 2005 hoping to find a Clone Trooper of any variation? Don’t bet on it.

Even TFA had a huge demand for its figures, but Hasbro goofed and made the supply too low.

Now? RO, TLJ and Solo figures just sit on shelves taking up space, if the store even bothered stocking them at all, I know a few of mine haven’t.

A drastic drop of quality in the 3.75" line, the market not being what it once was, and a push for characters the audience doesn’t care about aren’t helping matters.

I bought one figure for TLJ, Luke. I then promptly gave it away after realising it came with zero accessories, and I didn’t like the movie anyway.

I got figures for TFA and RO but I probably won’t even bother for Solo. I liked the film but the new toys are just garbage honestly.

I don’t even know where to buy Star Wars figures in-store now, with Toys 'R Us gone. The last figure I bought was the 5" Peter Capaldi/Matt Smith Doctor Who set, a line that is now completely dead. But I just can’t justify spending money on any toys. I only got that Doctor Who one to update a 12 Doctors set I received as a gift.

The only TLJ figures I have are the 6" Black Series figures of Luke and Rey. I’ve got the standard 3.75" figures for most of the TFA characters as well as Jyn, Chirrut and Vader from R1. I’ve also got 6" Black Series figures of Vader and Thrawn. I haven’t got anything from Solo yet, but I plan to buy the Black Series Lando if I ever see it in the wild. I usually get these things at Target or my local comic shop. Barnes & Noble sometimes has them too.

My Walmart (sorry mfm) has an entire aisle dedicated to star wars, and I doubt it’s because our store manager likes it.

I’ve got an Executioner Storm Trooper. I really want a Rey or Luke figure.
