Speaking of mods, isn’t oojason ahead of me in line?

If he wants to, but he never gave a definitive date to resume playing.

Sorry lads - my chess playing days are over for the considerable future; time and energy are in short supply of late 😉

Best of luck to both of you.

Besides, I am not sure the Ot.com Chess Championship is open to mods. It might be a conflict of interest.

Under what conditions is a challenge match typically played? Rough timeframe per move? And I’m assuming no consulting with books/computers, right?

There is really no timeframe per move. We do it kinda chess correspondence style. You post your move here in chess notation and your opponent responds with his/her move in chess notation. Of course taking an extremely long period of times risks a forfeit in your opponent’s favor.

After not playing chess for many years, I recently played against myself on a set at a coffee place. Coffee places tend to have chessboards laying around. I played to a draw, but I’ve never been very good.

At least you didn’t lose.

He also didn’t win.

You’re missing the part where you do it a ton more than anyone else. You’re starting to sound like a Warbsigher.

For the record, it didn’t bother me when he did sigh a lot. It was just something he did. It was Warbler being Warbler.

Sweet.

I haven’t sighed in multiple months, I think.

I play board games, but generally not chess. The main problems I have with with chess are how long it can take to play a round, and that there’s no theme. I like theme. Plus, I’m better at tactics than abstract strategy.

theme?

Yeah, it’s abstract, basically. I know the pieces have a designation and particular shape, but there’s no substance to the game beyond the gameplay itself. There’s nothing additional to immerse me in the experience or to make the game more interesting. If I want to pretend I’m on a battlefield or whatever, I have to do that all myself. The game provides nothing additional for me in aiding or fueling my imagination, and no story by which to become invested in any characters.

To each their own I guess.

I’ve decided to organize and hereby forthwith do declare the founding of:

The OT.com Chess Federation©®™(OTCF©®™)

I declare myself its first commissioner and of course recognize Darth Ender as OT.com chess champion.

The game between Darth Ender and Puggo shall go on as before.

The OP might have something to say about all this.

I am OP.

Ok so what do you say?

I have no problem with what Warbler did.

Warb may still be OP but I don’t like that his sigh has been nerfed.

Darth Ender already defeated him. Also, as far as I know, oojason never played chess professionally.

YeGods, I certainly have never played professionally. Has Darth?

No, and I’m sure you’re better than me, but it could still be fun!

I am not counting on being better than you by any stretch… It’s been almost 25 years since I played a real game, and I am crazy rusty. Last year I tried playing some speed chess in that park in D.C. while on vacation, and got my ass handed to me by someone who I thought was weak. I might have chalked that up to him hustling me, but we weren’t playing for money. I honestly can’t remember any openings, so I’ll be doing well to make it safely into the middle game.

I tried to get an idea of your level by looking back at your last two games against Warb and oojason – but it’s hard to tell because you are clearly much stronger than they are. The only move I wondered about was why you didn’t play e5 against Warbler - I thought that was the point of the previous move. Although, your pawn structure was so much better by then I thought maybe it was actually easier to win your way and that you did that on purpose.

Only because I started playing SWGOH, but I see what you did there!

Oh, that was just pure stupidity on my part. I was just trying to weaken his center and wasn’t even paying attention to the obvious fork. I play like that a lot: I make several great tactical moves, then some stupid error creeps in because I’m not paying attention.

Sorry, I should have said “Also, as far as I know, oojason was never an expert-level tournament player.”

Ok Darth, since Warbler has deemed me your next challenger, I’ll give it a try.
I don’t know how this works, but it looks like you’ve been letting challengers move first. If that’s still ok, and presuming we just jump in, I’ll try:
