RE: Editing / jumps between the three sequences of ROTJ’s climax.

I recently listened to a Rian Johnson podcast where he spoke about editing TLJ’s big three sequence setpiece (Throne Room / Finn & Rose infiltration / Holdo Manoeuvre) and the interesting part was that the script and earlier test screens had a lot more intercutting. It was considerably toned down in the final edit, so that audiences remained with each plot strand for longer. Johnson felt the sequence worked much better with less intercutting.

Adywan, I wonder whether Revisited might allow you the opportunity to slightly steer ROTJ three-sequence climax in this direction too?

Have you locked down yet where the additional material (B-Wings in the space battle, and more ground troops in the Endor battle) will be inserted? And will that extra material mean more intercutting or will it mean the audience actually stays within each plot strand for longer?

I don’t know how others feel, but for myself I feel I care more about the sequences when they last longer. It’s harder to build concern about the fate of the rebel pilots for example, when the film whisks you away so quickly.
