Batman Begins — Page 2

From the dvd An Evening With Kevin Smith:
Kevin Smith speaking: " '[Tim Burton]:I would never read a comic book...' which would explain f*ckin' Batman!"

I thought that one thing that set Batman Begins apart was its lack of CG special effects. 98% of the special effects in that flick were done with good ol'-fashioned models (exploding train, etc.), proving once again that you don't need the most technologically-advanced CG effects to have a damn good movie.

The originals had Harvey Dent played by Billy Dee Williams (a black guy), and then by Tommy Lee Jones (a white guy). You'd think that with these movies, where they know of sequel possibility, that they'd at least map out the basic plotlines of a few of them so you know which minor character flaws are going to come back and bite you in the ass.

Billy Dee Williams was set to play Two Face, his contract with WB had that clause saying that if Two Face was to appear in any movie, he would play it. Eventually WB chose Tommy Lee Jones for the role and bought Billy Dee Williams out of his contract.

Amen! If only THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING (George Lucas) felt this way. He will pay the price for his lack of vision.

I thought Batman Begins was a really good, almost great, movie. There were some great visuals in it. I thought Katie Holmes was miscast, but the rest of the cast handled the material brilliantly. I think Nolan/Bale should do one sequel right away and then wait twenty years and do Dark Knight Returns. If there is a sequel with the Joker, they should use Doug Jones(the mime that played Abe in Hellboy) and the voice of Mark Hamil.

Honestly, I'm not sure why so many people have a problem with Katie Holmes in the role. I thought she did a fine job.

Why not Mark Hammil as the actor as well? Of course, I'm saying this as a SW fan, because I don't really want to see a sequel to "Begins".

Wha? A sequel to Begins would be friggin' awesome. Besides, you said you didn't like how little of Batman there was, and that was because they had to establish all the "whys" of Batman. In a sequel, Bruce would have the alter ego from the get go, and Batman could really shine.

Hmn, you got a point. OK, so I'd like to see a sequel, BUT... I wouldn't be able to watch the Joker being played by someone else than Jack Nicholson... besides Mark Hammil of course.

Didn't the internet and Batman fanbase in general basically choose Bale for the role of Batman anyway?

Who is to say that, through popular support and due to the fact that it seems Christopher Nolan is listening to the fans, he won't be cast? If Hamill is willing, of course.

He'd probably do it for no other reason than he loves the character and/or wants to distance himself even more from Luke and towards more of a voice actor/character actor (and do it in the spotlight of a blockbuster hit no less).

rumor has it that this is the man who will be the joker.

And i am here to tell you that it can work.

The key is to create a joker character that is very different than the character Jack played (just like begins had to be a much different movie than the og batman). Jack played a psycho/sadistic killer with the normal jack charm, to try and recreate that would be suicide. From what i have read the new joker would not be the physical weakling that jack played, but a more physically intimidating character with more viciousness(which sounds more like comic version of him) I remember reading a quote that stated they wanted the viewer to "believe this joker could kick batman's a$$". i think it could work well and would enjoy seeing a Joker that is more direct.

i know i am looking forward to it...

Hmn, I still think Mark Hammil could pull it off.

As do I, which is why I hope they ask him to listen to the rabid fanbase and ask him to do the part.

I'd worry more about Hamil declining. He doesn't like to do non-VA work, even if he IS still the most youthful-looking of his SW costars.

well, you've got one thing going for you there. Lucas is not in control of Batman, so there is a least a chance they will listen to the fans.

Then again, Lucas listened to the fan's cry for more Boba fett story.

I think Hamil is a great actor, but he has not aged well and would need to lose his gut in order to play the Joker. That's why I think he should do the voice and have someone else do the body. It also might give an interesting disconnect that could be quite creepy. I think the Joker could be done brilliantly if they make him closer to the animated series and make people forget about the great job put in by Nicholson.

I don't think that Katie Holmes did a bad acting job, but she seemed about ten years younger than Bale. I was suprised when I found out that she is only about five years younger than Bale. She just seems a lot younger. The kids that played them seemed to be the same age.
Holmes also didn't seem to be as intense as the other actors. She seemed to be in a slightly different movie than everyone else. Again, I don't think she did a bad job or is a bad actress, but I found it distracting in the movie.

i cant buy an old wrinkley version of the joker ala hammil. As i said earlier they are trying to make a different kind of joker, something very different from Jack Nicholson. I can't see hammil playing that part...

The Joker in my opinion takes an eccletic mix of oddly skinny physique and psycho mentality that very few actors could pull off effectively. Hammill does an awesome voice and acting job on the character but has no physical resemblance to Joker. I'm sure I'll be in the minority here but I could not stand Jack Nicholson as Joker! About the time of 'The Shining' Nicholson stopped *acting* in movies and started only playing himself. Jack, we get it already- now show us something we haven't seen! But instead Burton fell for the act and gave us a fat, middle-age man in clown make-up. Oh joy. Was he *bad*? Not much more than the rest of the film...

Anywho, the current rumor I've read for casting of the Joker would, I feel, be almost perfect- Crispin Glover. A thinner, more crazy actor I do not know!

George McFly?!?! I just don't think I'd be able to take him seriously. He was a pretty good creepy guy in "Willard", but he was more of a "Sit in the corner and snicker while he watches you die" kind of creepy guy.
