well it is the truth. Whenever these things happen, the cops are automatically presumed to be in the wrong.

That’s why they are all in jail, gotcha.

I should have said “with the exception of the courts”.

“Except where it matters” would have worked fine as well.

The court of public perception matters. Many of these cops even when found not guilty can never return to their jobs and they. That matters. It matters when the papers and groups like BLM treat you like a murderer. Ask Darren Wilson if he can ever have a normal life again.

What? For all we know, he is innocent. He wasn’t found guilty “where it matters” according to CatBus. Yet his career was ruined and can never have a normal life again. I bring this up to show the courts aren’t the only thing that matters in these cases. And yes I know Michael Brown can’t have a normal life either.

I’m just saying the courts aren’t the area that matters. The court of public opinion matters. It can ruin careers and reputations.

You do realize you’re now making the same argument that Trump is currently making in defending men accused of abuse and harassment, right?

You can lose your job over acts that, while not illegal, violate rules of professional conduct or reflect badly on the employer – and that’s the employer’s prerogative. I guess I should tier that. Courts matter most. Employers matter secondary. Public opinion could make you have to live with unflattering memes for the rest of your life, so that matters a little less.

Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation. Some are true and some are false. Some are old and some are new. There is no recovery for someone falsely accused - life and career are gone. Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?

I will grant you the difference is that there was process in the case you are talking about. Was it due process though?

We’ll see what an investigation/lawsuit turns up.

no,no,no,no,no,no. We don’t wait for investigations and evidence and trials anymore. The cops are guilty. They are murderers and they shot the guy because they hate his race. We all know it, we don’t need any investigation or evidence or trial! Benefit of the doubt/reasonable doubt don’t matter anymore.

This is hyperbole. You’re talking about a mob mentality, but which mob? You assume because there are enough people to collectively complain loudly about a cop and to target them for verbal abuse, that all or the majority of people agree with said mob. That isn’t true, though. There are plenty of people on either side, and many more who are silent or on the fence. News media and social media do not paint an objective picture of the reality of opinions people have.

I myself am on the fence. Yes, police officers must be held to a higher standard, as they are not above the law and as they have the capability and authority for potentially lethal force. They can not be allowed to abuse that power that they have. Rash actions reflect badly not only on officers themselves, but additionally their department and the justice system as a whole. But, at the same time, citizens need to respect law enforcement, as these officers put themselves in harm’s way each and every day. My wife’s cousin is a cop in Connecticut and he talked about how an officer has no idea, going into even a routine traffic stop, of the circumstances he will encounter or whether they’re dangerous.

Not really.

The White House is wrong to defend Porter but is right to not make a judgment on the matter and to emphasize the importance of due process. Validating the mob mentality is more dangerous than Trump’s statements.

On the Darren Wilson matter, after a full investigation, the evidence strongly supported his version of events.

The key here is to wait for more information and not jump to conclusions.

Just because Trump occasionally talks about due process or brushes his teeth don’t mean we should stop doing those things.

Yeah tell that to all the women who are ignored…which is generally all of them. “The mob mentality” doesn’t exist unless it’s the mentality where women are liars.

How did that mob mentality work out for all the women who have accused Trump?

I’m not sure Trump brushes his teeth. I believe his move is Tic-Tacs. And I believe there’s audio to prove it.

Ignored by whom? By Trump? By chauvenists? I don’t see why you would expect differently.

You’re saying only the far-right are capable of a mod mentality?

How did that mob mentality work out for all the women who have accused Trump?

News media is probably not interested in continually covering that, as it is old news. Are you saying women have filed suits in court which have all been dismissed? I’m not aware that everyone and their dog assumes Trump’s female accusers are liars. It’s just likely no one in the media finds it interesting to discuss at this point.

Increased awareness and pressure on law enforcement to do their jobs is great. The problem by-and-large has not been a belief that women are liars. It’s that powerful people have had the means to protect themselves and people with business or political interests abetted them. The believe all women/all women are liars dichotomy is idiotic.

Mob mentality is fine and dandy for political figures who are in office because we put them there.

The blue elephant in the room.
