It displeases me that humanism and secular humanism have become conflated. The core tenets of humanism resonate with me, but I’ll never be able to identify as humanist without causing others to believe I’m a rationalist/materialist/non-theist, which I most certainly am not.
It displeases me that as a non native English speaker who is not used to discussions about beliefs I don’t know the definitions of humanism, secular humanism, conflated, tenets, rationalist, materialist and non-theist. As a result your post makes no sense to me, but I would like it to. I guess I should just read up on these things.
Don’t worry about it. I’m a native speaker, and there are times when I’m not sure if I even know what many of those words mean. 😉
Thank you, haha. As a result of my worries I got to learn a few things though. Worry is likely an important aspect of humanity that can force us to take action to make things better. See my edit above.
