I’d like to bitch about NBC’s Olympics coverage. It just annoys me.

*I have never been diagnosed with any kind of depressive disorder. The doctor seemed more interested in prescribing than diagnosing, so I’m medicated, but whatever my real problem is is undiagnosed at the time.

Reminds me of me c. 2004.

This year’s flu outbreak has reached my house and claimed my sister, who woke me up this morning by grabbing and shaking me, and possibly infecting me. I guess we’ll find out in the coming days.

Sorry to hear that, I hope she gets well soon and that you don’t get it yourself.

It displeases me that humanism and secular humanism have become conflated. The core tenets of humanism resonate with me, but I’ll never be able to identify as humanist without causing others to believe I’m a rationalist/materialist/non-theist, which I most certainly am not.

It displeases me that as a non native English speaker who is not used to discussions about beliefs I don’t know the definitions of humanism, secular humanism, conflated, tenets, rationalist, materialist and non-theist. As a result your post makes no sense to me, but I would like it to. I guess I should just read up on these things.

Okay, that wasn’t so hard. I understand you know. I can also conclude that I might be classified as a secular humanist/rationalist/materialist/atheist. I don’t really see the problem of people believing you are one thing or the other, though. The worst thing that can happen is that you get to explain your view and have a philosophical discussion.

Don’t worry about it. I’m a native speaker, and there are times when I’m not sure if I even know what many of those words mean. 😉

Thank you, haha. As a result of my worries I got to learn a few things though. Worry is likely an important aspect of humanity that can force us to take action to make things better. See my edit above.

I want to bitch about my English class and my teacher - I don’t hate the subject but she in 2 weeks made me hate it. I don’t mind doing homework nor do I think it’s a pain or anything negative, but I dislike her to the point where I refuse to do her homework. I’m the one being negatively impacted by not doing my homework but I refuse. I guess it’s the actual teenager in me. I’m glad that in less than 4 months it’ll all be over. God I hate her.

Why do you hate her? What has she done and/or not done?

Good teachers can help us excel in subjects, Bad teachers can help us fail in subjects. Of course the student should bear some responsibility (as you recognize), but you can’t avoid the fact that the quality of the teacher will make a difference.

I had a terrible math teacher junior or senior year of highschool, and I still believe that it was a turning point for me not caring about the subject.

So i get the bitching. I guess try to find a way to make it work.

I similarly was in Band in middle school and high school, and the band directors I had at the time were irritable and bad-tempered.

I went to a different school starting my Junior year, and the band director there heard that I was in Band at my previous school and persuaded me to join there. I was extremely reluctant because I hated my other two teachers, but he was great. I really enjoy music and having a friendly teacher who enjoyed his subject made all the difference.

Trumpet until my sophomore year, then Baritone (which is like a small tuba).
My sister played flute and alto sax.

Yes, I’m aware you were making a joke. No, I didn’t “learn that in school”, as I am both straight and waited until I was married.
