I don’t know. It seems to be pretty rooted in the uncanny valley, maybe for some short, far away shots, but I can’t see extensive use of this kind of technology in its current state.

I would agree, though I have seen some other examples that were pretty incredible, nearly seamless. Especially when the original person looks fairly similar to the actor. This would also work well for hologram shots, action shots, basically anything that isn’t a close up.

I’d be curious how it might do replacing Jake Lloyd with Hayden. Then we just need a voice synth of Matt Lanter to replace Hayden’s voice!

Wow, it actually looks pretty good.

Neither Leia nor Tarkin bothered me in RO though, so for those who were bothered it’s probably just as bad.

It’s worth noting that this technique is still very new and the way it works is that once you have collected your data (in this case images of Leia’s face and the frames of the scene they are going to be placed over) the program carries out almost all of the work.

You’d need a good PC and several hours to leave it to run, but if that’s the results after say a day of unsupervised computing then with a bit of after effects work the results could be even better.

If that could be coupled with something like the recent trailer that was released of the remade duel between obi wan and Vader then I think it could have some real potential.

Oh boy, as soon as I saw the app I knew there would be a Solo fanedit that put Harrison Ford’s face in the movie. A lo’ and behold https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEADJocGzX4 - A side note, shame Anthony Ingruber wasn’t cast

Yeah, wow! I am really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the trailer looks like. If it is good enough, hopefully someone does this for the whole movie. I am really bothered by this new guy

The sad thing is I don’t think you’re joking.

Maybe someone could replace yoda’s face in I-III with puppet Yoda’s face from ESB and ROTJ

“Get over violence, madness and death? What else is there?”

Also someone could fix palps face (When he’s scared)

With his face from ROTJ

Not sure if the puppet face would look good in a CGI character, but worth a try. Really like the idea for Palpatine.

…Hayden in the ROTJ unmasking scene?

I’d be curious to see that mocked up. Just curious. I wonder how it’d look to map Hayden’s face over Shaw’s for the ghost scene, too. Better? It’d be hard not for it to be.
Seems like a fun thing to play with.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Agreed, particularly for the ESB hologram scene (though it’d be nice if he looked more ROTJ-like in ROTS, too, I suppose).

Wait, the ESB hologram, really? Ady already did that?

Wait, the ESB hologram, really? Ady already did that?

And he did a very good job with what he had available to him at the time, but it’s still rather stiff and photograph-y (though it’s my preferred version of the scene by far). I’m mostly just curious to see how well this would work in comparison.

It’s essentially the same thing.

Is it? I don’t know how this program/app works, but if the top half of the face moves or looks more natural than Adywan’s then it’s definitely worth a try imo.

I can’t imagine it does? It’s an algorithm that does it, I’d be surprised if it did it more naturally. Not to mention, McDiamird barely moves anyway in the ESBSE scene.
