kk650's Regraded Interstellar V2 (blanket yellow tint removed from blu-ray) (Released)

I’ve just uploaded a V2 regrade of Interstellar to Myspleen. The release is 23.12 GB and includes the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 audio track from the blu-ray.

With this V2 release I have gone ahead and removed all the blanket yellow tint across the whole film. I now feel that the film is far more pleasing to the eye, removing the blanket yellow tint brings all the other colours in the film back to life, making it a lot more enjoyable to watch. Also included are the chapter timings taken straight from the official blu-ray.

Here are some screencap comparisons between the blu-ray and this regraded release:

You’re in luck schlanske! This release is now available as a 23GB release outside of Myspleen. I’ve just uploaded a new 23GB release of Interstellar V2 with DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio to the same place as usual. All those interested in knowing where, send me a PM.

Wow! Checked out a few shots and it’s really wonderful. The Blu-Ray on the TV and kk’s version on the computer, the difference is absurd. You’re amazing kk. Please, never stop.

Hi kk650,

Could you please advise what are the differences between V1 and V2?

Thanks!

Hmmm, while you did a great job removing the blanket yellow tint the movie now seems to have a purple cast, and from what I can see from various film cells the movie should have a cyan cast.

Yeah… you didn’t remove the yellow cast… you simply replaced it with a purple cast. The purple cast looks worse IMO!

uh huh, another case of regrading for the sake of regrading.

This is just a companion post to my comment on kk650’s Raiders regrade that can be found here.

Again, kk650, I don’t want to incite confrontation, but you’re overcorrecting with your regrades. You’re essentially replacing a yellow tint with a purple one, rather than performing an actual color balance. Here’s an example of the original Blu-ray compared with your regrade and a proper color balance, accompanied with the parade scope:

You can clearly see with your regrade that the green highlights aren’t balance with the red/blue hightlights, thus producing a magenta tint.

I’d rather keep the Blu-ray disc which is with the UHD.

I agree. I think the Blu-ray looks fantastic as-is. The yellow tint throughout matches thematically with this world that’s full of dust and dirt. The film already looks beautiful. No need to change it!
