This horrific thought has kept me up many a night. When I asked him, he replied “I think they respect his wishes,” which hopefully means that’s why and not a contractual clause.

There’s still apparently a lot of work to be done and tons of opposition politically and legally. I’m not saying Disney won’t do it, but it sounds like it’s a long, uphill battle for them.

Nothing short of the complete and utter collapse of Hollywood will bring Disney down to size and allow newcomers to ascend.
Media is changing and Disney is late the game on streaming. I could see them losing ground as in home media grows.

There have long been movies by Disney that weren’t labelled as Disney, but were distributed under the label of Touchstone Pictures. Disney can, and does, successfully have a hand in things without them being directly associated with Mickey Mouse. It’s just that LFL’s acquisition by Disney was a high-profile sale, and so people attach the two as though everything Disney touches is colorized with the same Disneyfying brush, so to speak.

I did not see this coming. A bit of a shame too, in terms of OOT. In terms of monopolies, I guess it’s a good thing? I don’t know.
Any hypothetical positives which may come with Disney purchasing 21st Century Fox are grossly outweighed by the negatives. I want Disney to lose this deal.
It’s not necessarily bad for Star Wars. Universal, (which is owned by Comcast) could release it on video. Disney and Universal have a bit of a working relationship as well. Universal still has rights to The Incredible Hulk, but the big green guy gets to be in the Avengers movies. That could bode very well for all the Marvel characters Fox has the rights to.
In 2006 Universal gave Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, a character Walt Disney created before Mickey but was never able to retain the rights to early in his career, back to Disney in exchange for an ESPN sportscaster!
