Yes, its a whole new stadium. Both the Eagles and Phillies got new stadiums. The Vet no longer exists, it was demolished last March. I'm suprised you didn't notice.

its ok. With all the new stadiums going up and old ones coming down across the country, it can be hard to keep track. Unless of course it happen in your city.

Yeah, those ones I know about. I'm still pissing and moaning about the renaming of Rosemont Horizon and Comiskey Park. I refuse to call them by their new names.

It's a concert stadium and home of the Chicago Wolves (AHL). It's been Rosemont Horizon for as long as I could remember until a few years ago when it was renamed All State Arena. Blasphemy. I can understand naming a new stadium for a company. But to take an existing stadium and get rid of a long-standing name in favor of corporate sponsorship is just wrong.

I say even naming a new statium after a company is wrong.

I wanted the new football field to be called: Burt Bell Staduim (in honor of the Eagles 1st owner and founder)


And everyone in Philly wanted the new baseball field to be called: Ashburn Field (In honor of Richie Ashburn, the pride of the Phillies)

Lincoln Financial Field?

Citizen's Bank Ballpark??

I guarentee you that these names will be changed in less than 10 years. The staduim where the Sixers and Flyers play, in its short history, has already had its name changed due to bank mergers 3 times. 3 Times! That is just plain stupid! Just how much money do these owners need to make anyway?

In Cleveland, we've tried to resist that corporate naming rights stuff.

The football field is Cleveland Browns Stadium.
Our basketball arena is Gund Arena (the owner of the team is/was Gordon Gund).
Our baseball stadium is Jacob's Field (the owner of the Indians at the time was Dick Jacobs).

People are worried, in fact, about what is going to happen with 'the Jake' as we call it, when the naming contract is up. We don't want to see a corporate name go up, but we may end up having no choice in the matter.

Maybe they could do what they did with Lambeau. Instead of naming the field, they sold naming rights to entrance gates. You can enter through the 'Oneida Nation' gate if you want.

There was a huge uproar here in Chicago when the Bears organization considering selling naming rights to the redesigned Soldier Field. People were up in arms and rightfully so. Then they backed down a little bit and suggested trying something like Baltimore does with Oriole Park at Camden Yards and allowing some company to come in and the name would be XXXXX Park at Soldier Field. I don't think that flew either as the stadium just finished its second year of existence and it's still just Soldier Field. Hopefully renaming will never happen there.

You mean Chicago was entertaining the idea of changing the name of their team, for money?

That's horrible!

The Packers/Bears rivalry is the longest running and possibly the strongest in the NFL. It wouldn't be right if they changed their name.

There is only 1 team I would feel ok with changing their name. The Ravens. Why?

Because their name would make so much more sense if they were the Ons.

I never heard anything about TEAM naming rights. Just the stadium. They would never let such a thing happen to the team name. Too much history. They literally would have been lynched and strung up by their toenails and beaten to death.

Baltimore cannot take their old name. The trademark on the name belonged to the team, not the city. When the team moved, they were allowed to take it. They could have changed it a la the Browns to Ravens when they moved in which case the teamname could be reused since it was no longer active. But no.

I dug the Ons joke. Pretty funny.

But seriously, I dig the Ravens. I like their name a lot. A good historical reference for the city.

Baltimore Colts rings truer (imho)

I say Baltimore should try to make a deal with Indianapolis to get the name back. The name belongs to Baltimore not Indianapolis.

keep in mind this threads were already going. I just bumped them. I didn’t do so until it was the day of the big game itself. 3 is rather tame compared to how many Christmas threads got bumped in November.

almost gave me a heartattack when I saw they were going for it. I could it see them not scoring and turning the ball over on downs and Tom Brady marching the team up the field to score a touchdown at the end of the half and take the lead and then come out in the 2nd half with the ball and momentum and score another touchdown. But fortunately, the Eagles scored instead.
