Star Wars - Thanks to Harmy, I at long last got the chance to see the original again, and goddamn, I’d forgotten. I’d forgotten that Lucas was once a young renegade who’d synthesized David Lean’s epic sweep with Kurosawa and Ford’s clean lines. I’d forgotten how he once put things onscreen no one had ever seen or heard before, I’d forgotten the lean, economical storytelling, brilliant aesthetic, I’d forgotten so much. Thanks, Harmy. Thanks.
I mean, I know that the Special Editions don’t even compare to the original, but besides everything Mos Eisley, most changes are color, sound and some “subtle” changes. Just because the STAR WARS logo goes back too quickly doesn’t mean that Lucas’ lean, economic storytelling and brilliant aesthetics are not there. I love what Harmy did to the film and it’s honestly a masterpiece, the guy is insanely skillful, I’m not downplaying him, don’t get me wrong; I’m just saying that even though the original is very superior in very subtle ways, I think you’re being too harsh on the special editions by saying they worsened some storytelling aspects of the movie. (Jabba scene does, but that’s it)
