I grow my own. (Sweet potatoes) I had some free space at the end of the garden where my cantaloupe didn’t do well so I put in two sweet potatoes. I first put them in a glass with toothpicks, the way you do in elementary school. After three weeks they had a fair amount of roots and new growth.
I put them in the garden about 8 feet apart. That was in August. By November, I had a total of about 28 between the two. All the potatoes grow very close to the original, about a foot below the ground.
They’ve been quite tasty. They made an appearance at Christmas dinner. They weren’t ready for Thanksgiving. That we’re out of the ground already, but need a few weeks to cure. That makes them much sweeter. Right out of the ground they’re a little bitter.
