They spoke and drew attention to themselves awkwardly.

Some people really get off on awkward distracting scenes that fail to propel the story forward at all. They should probably stop trying to appease that part of the audience.

yeah…

Anyone else think we might get a Droids movie someday? There isn’t the wiggle room there once was for Threepio and Artoo to have solo adventures between the trilogies, but maybe we’ll find out what the red arm thing in TFA was about.

That story was told in comic form and Tony Daniels milks it for all its worth by padding out his panels with it. =P

All movies are fan service of one type or another. People only seem to ridicule it when they aren’t a fan of some aspect.

Exactly. People just use it as a whiny buzzword.

I refuted this generalization in an earlier post.

Threepio and Artoo being at the Rebel base makes sense if Bail Organa is there. There’s nothing to contradict them not having been to the Yavin system before.
Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba being on Jedha was pushing it. Had they simply been in the foreground or background of a crowd scene instead of calling attention to them would have been better.

Exactly, and the same goes for R2 and 3PO. Calling attention to then is just a distraction from the plot to say, “Remember these guys?” I don’t mind Easter eggs, I just don’t like it when films stop in order to draw my attention to things that are exciting purely because they were in other, better films.

The problem that reared it’s ugly head there was that R2 and 3P0 were never meant to be on raddus ship but on the Tantive (and the Tantive was not part of or inside Raddus ship). It would have just had the Blockade runner receiving the transmission and going to hyperspace. Nothing too fancy.

so because of all the retro fitting it made it appear like they were just shoved in the film, when before the film was altered it probably made much more sense in the first cut of the film.

It’s pretty stupid to try and mess with films after they have been filmed in “big ways” unless you re-shoot the whole lot pertaining to the new story. A directors Vision is worth nothing to most of these studios. It’s the studios vision that matters.

But it’s also poor planning with an urge to make mega bucks quick with the needle swinging to forgettable content rather than memorable.

I hope I ain’t crazy for finding the C3PO and R2 cameo to be stupid cause I groaned when that came on screen. It just felt so hamfisted.

What did you think of the Evazan and Ponda Baba cameo?

I didn’t mind the droids cameo, I mean, Bail Organa was there, that’s not fan service to me. Now if they showed up out of nowhere, no Bail Organa or Bail Antillies, then, I would be like what the hell?

Now the Dr.Evazan and Ponda Baba is different, they shouldn’t have been there, THAT was fan service to me.

It wasn’t hamfisted… it was like the whole swine right up to the elbow.

This. Same as the blue milk. Felt like I was being treated like a two year old. No, it couldn’t have been just in the corner of a medium shot, it had to slowly zoom right in on it for a solid two seconds and just screamed “Remember thissss!?!?”

The only moment I felt was “remember this?” was the cantina guys. C-3PO and R2-D2 were theoretically supposed to appear in every movie, so I thought that their cameo was a nice nod to that. And it lasted for about 2 seconds, so I really don’t know how it managed to in 2 seconds bother some people to the extent it did.

And I didn’t know there was blue milk in the movie until now. And d so, what’s the big deal? Maybe it’s like the most common juice in the Star Wars universe, or it’s easy for farmers to acquire.

I don’t know, I rewatched the Vader moments last night and those didn’t really feel as fan service-y as I thought they would either. Oh well.

While I disagree on 3PO and R2 mainly because of execution, I’m with you on basically everything else.

And the problem with the blue milk is that the shot centers and zooms right in on it for no other reason than fanservice.

I find it cool and weird that Solo and Deadpool 2 will come out in may.

No doubt there will be a Deadpool trailer where he blows up the Falcon or sprawls out on a Wookiee rug. 😉

Totally disagree about that, the blue milk wasn’t what the camera was moving towards. I guarantee if you don’t know what blue milk is you wouldn’t even notice.

As for Evazan and Ponda, I agree, I thought that was the worst offender. I didn’t mind R2 and 3PO because of the brevity of the scene (and once you have Vader and Tarkin and Bail and Mothama and Leia in the movie, you kinda gotta but the droids in somewhere too).

Yeah, I agree that the droids should have been in the movie somewhere. I guess I just wasn’t too big of a fan of how it was done or what they said but I follow what your saying.

I must be weird in this view, but what most people define as “fan service” has never really annoyed me.

Disney is really blowing it with the marketing on this one.

Yeah, I last heard it’s coming out on May 25th, it’s a 2hr and 23 minutes trailer, first of its kind.

It’s barely two months since TLJ came out though. Plenty of time to rev up the hype machine. A super bowl trailer seems a safe bet.

If it doesn’t come out by Super Bowl weekend or with Black Panther, it’s not coming out in May.

I agree. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

I mean I’m not rooting for more or anything, but I guess I just don’t care either way.
