Just got my blank BDRs today in the mail (from Japan, HTL, BD50, ink-jet printable) so I started burning my ISOs with ImgBurn as directed. It went through Star Wars just fine and I tested it and it works great. I started burning ESB and I get an error half way through saying:

“Failed to Write Sectors 10171008 - 10171039 - Reason: Invalid Field in CDB”

Doing a bit of research I discovered this means the burner and the ISO basically have a difference of opinion on the ISO size or something. Is this just a bum burn/disc? Will this happen again? I only ordered 5 discs and I need at least 4 for the 4 BD50 ISOs provided in this 6 ISO collection. If I try again with another disc will the same error occur? I guess my real question is, is it something wrong with the ISO or the disc I was using?

I had some issues with IMG Burn the first time I tried to do it as well. I contacted tech support and they suggested the following:

Your log shows the drive running into issues when burning the discs and reporting lots of ‘Write Errors’.

I can’t really comment on why the ones that burnt without an error weren’t then able to be verified. Each time it’s just saying the drive is empty. Is the disc actually still in there when you abort the operation? If so, the drive must be unable to reinitialise the disc after the tray has been ejected and reinserted - That isn’t a good sign.

There’s pretty much just one option you could enable that may or may not help matters. Try enabling the ‘Perform OPC Before Write’ option in the settings. If your discs aren’t quite what the drive’s firmware is expecting for that MID (MEI-T02-001), that may help it fine tune the laser power for the ones you’re using.

You also have the option of updating to a newer firmware release and seeing if that improves things.

I was able to update my drive’s firmware and used the settings suggested, I don’t think I had a bad disc write since.

May the Force be with you.

I came upon that same post actually just yesterday when I was researching further (I haven’t tried the Opc option thing yet but I shall). I did look up new firmware for my drive too and found one (I was apparently one version behind) but when I tried to run it it said device mismatch or something. I looked that up and apparently there are two models of my burner and one of them doesn’t need to be updated and is already on the newest version for it (1.02) and won’t work with 1.03 for the other variation. I also don’t get write errors, though. It says that the sectors don’t match. I found one post that said this was because the drive and the burning program argue that certain clusters of data is located in different sectors than the other claims. Something like that.

I burned SW without a hitch. ESB ran into this error and wouldn’t finalize. ROTJ ran into the same error but DID finalize. Only part of the disc is readable. I’m just wondering if it was the discs themselves or if it was just an odd chance of this happening to any disc. I guess I won’t know until I experiment more which I’m going to do today. I’ll just buy more discs. I should have gotten a 10 pack, though. I just didn’t expect it to error out 2 times out of 3 as I thought I was taking all the proper precautions. I guess that’s just the nature of it, though.

Man, it seems that with every new technology it becomes less stable than the last. Used to be able to burn CDs at full speed without any problems (most of the time). Then DVD-R’s came out and you had to slow it down. Now we’re at BD-R’s and they error out on the slowest speeds two times out of three. Sigh.

EDIT 2: Just attempted another burn at 1x and it is indeed a limitation of the drive itself. Oh well. Guess I’m just going to be running into this from time to time. That’s too bad.

EDIT 3: Just finished another burn attempt at 2x for ESB and it was a success! I don’t know if the OPC function is what it or what. Will find out when I attempt ROTJ.

EDIT 4: Ok just finished ROTJ. It’s verifying now, but it seems that OPC option thing did the trick! Either that or I got really lucky. Really happy. Now I just need to get more discs to burn the last BD50 documentaries disc, but at least I got all 3 movies. 😃

Process so far! I use the face covers because they’re my favourite, but underneath I also have the NJVC covers as well as it has more info especially to what’s actually on the disc that I can switch to at my pleasure. You might be able to see slightly on the ANH and ESB discs that I filled in the off-center white border in the middle hole with a sharpie so it wouldn’t look quite as bad lol. Fortunately, ROTJ printed perfectly. If I ever get more BD50 discs I might attempt to burn them again and get them centered properly.

The covers and inserts I printed on some nice glossy presentation paper with my work’s laser colour printer so it looks legit! Only problem is there are some embedded lines (not ink, but like the paper was pressed slightly inside the machine) but it’s barely noticeable especially when it’s all mostly black.

So happy with this compilation! Very definitive! Perfect for the shelf.

Very nice musicallyinspired. Loving your presentation there it’s a beautiful set. Heres my own I made using NJVC’S set and a box tutorial I found here. I included mini comics and trading cards too for a more retro feel from the 70s / 80s. It also has a slipcover on thick glossy paper and a hard outer box.

Huge thanks to harmy, NJVC and everyone here who helped me.

This set looks fantastic.

Would it be possible for someone to PM me who has the technical know-how and supplies to make a complete Blu Ray set? I’m more than willing to pay for the time and cost of materials. Thanks in advance!

Hi, coming a little late to the game here but if any kind Star Wars fan would be willing to provide discs of the despecialized editions, I would be forever in your debt. I don’t have the technological expertise/equipment for it myself. I can obtain cover art and blu ray disc cases, but don’t know the first thing about obtaining the files/burning the discs properly. I do own the 2004 DVD set and the 2011 Blu Ray set. I’d just love the despecialized trilogy but am unable to obtain them safely. Any help?

So I guess this is the new myspleen thread then. Yay?

I have no desire for a Myspleen account as I don’t have the data to be able to make large downloads like that anyway. Actually, I’ve been having great success with FreeRapid Downloader and Uloz and downloading at work. I can leave an external drive and my laptop and just download overnight (or over the week) until it’s all done.

Just be glad the invite request threads have finally f***ing stopped.

I’m really glad that I got a Myspleen invite before they shut all that down.

To those people asking for others to burn their sets for them:

We understand it is frustrating to have to buy a blu-ray burner to make the sets. But that is the unfortunate reality. The few of us that have the equipment available would never be able to keep up with demand for burned sets from the general public.

Also keep in mind burners are not ridiculously expensive. Remember, you had to save in the past to buy a television & blu-ray player. You can do the same for a blu-ray burner.

As for as technical skills, it really isn’t that complicated. Just follow the guide step by step, and post questions if anything confuses you. People will be more than willing to help on that front.

But offering to burn discs for other users opens a pandora’s box, both in terms of copyright infringement and the flood of requests it would invite. Because of that, it is highly unlikely that people here will do the burning for you.

It really is not difficult. The worst part was waiting for all the supplies to ship to me lol (and for the ISOs to download…that took about a week and a half). My highest expense was the burner itself which was $50 on Newegg. The actual burning process is spit-easy. The easiest part.

I honestly think the only realistic hurdle for anyone would be ISP data caps, and even with a fairly restrictive one, if you’re patient you can get them piecemeal over time.

Yeah, I pay through the nose for a ridiculously low data cap because I live outside of town. I can do about 4GB a day and that’s it. I had to download at work. Luckily I had a laptop and an external drive I could there and download over time.

People also seem to forget that using computers that are publicly accessible at libraries to get the rars a few at a time is a feasible option, even if your home internet is slow.

If you use a flash drive just for the purpose of transporting files from the library to your home storage, an 8 gig drive would suffice to get 10 rars per trip.

Most libraries at least have broadband, so even if you only have dial-up at your home, these projects can still be within reach for you.

And 10 RARs is about the cap every 4 hours or so for an unregistered MEGA user.

I bet they have filters for this kind of content at public libraries.

The more hoops it appears one has to take to do something, the more likely it is that they don’t do it, no master how simple it is.

That might sometimes be the case, but it was not my experience.

The NTSC DVD5 versions of SW 2.5 and ESB 2.0 are posted on mega, and I ran into the IP address data limits that pop up after 5 GB when I was downloading those DE rars for the first time.

So I used precisely the approach I mentioned above to speed up the operation.

I would download 10 500 MB files at home, and when I could, run to the library, and download 10 500 MB files there, one by one, straight from the links, with no download manager, just to supplement the process. Even if all the files had been posted on mega and my home internet had been dial-up speed, for me, it would have been possible to obtain everything with this method, albeit tediously.

Many of us can turn off our modem and turn it back on to change IP address. Can you change your IP address to get around the download cap from Mega?

It really isn’t difficult to find places where these are available for download. I think the biggest issue for people is burning them successfully and then creating those amazing looking box-sets that look nice on the shelf. All we need is a Blu Ray burner and three blank discs. Three empty Blu Ray cases, a printer, paper and ink. Given that printers are so common chances are, that part of the project is easier for the average fan. The problem is most people don’t have Blu Ray burners. Those are not the standard by a long shot. In point of fact, most newer computers don’t even feature DVD drives anymore. In my opinion the best option with the least amount of technical difficulty is to get the mkv versions and stream them via a home media server like Plex. The novelty of owning Blu Ray versions of these wonderful edits to place on the shelf next to the official Blu Ray set is beautiful, but not realistic for the vast majority of people who are requesting members of this site to create them. I’m not saying people here should do it just because it’s asked, but when certain websites are selling these discs for $45 standard and $60 deluxe it’s an example of a demand that’s putting the entire project at risk. I would rather pay someone on here who is willing to do it because they are good at it and want to help out a fellow fan. Better to pay you for your time and supplies than purchase them from a greedy dude making a living off of other people’s hard work.

I’ve been following Harmy’s masterful genius on this project for years and have never personally had any problems downloading the releases. The fact that other members on here seem to get so annoyed when people make requests for a Myspleen invite or the physical discs themselves baffles me. The project was created to be shared by fans and passed around freely. The notoriety The Despecialized Editions have been receiving in recent years is because the project as a whole is such a perfect example of pure love! It has made the dream of owning the original trilogy in modern formats an incredible reality. If I had a Blu Ray burner and major league Photoshop skills I would likely be one of those people helping to spread these edits around on disc to those who want them but do not have what they need or understand the process. I have become a mostly digital film collector in recent years, purchasing most newer films through services rather than buying physical discs. Often times I have pointed people curious about Harmy’s Despecialized Editions directly to the mkv versions because once they are downloaded, they can be played back through supported media players, with no burning, printing or plastic cases required. My point being that spreading this around freely is the best way to support it and prevent fraudulent websites from profiting.

A Bluray burner is $60 on Newegg. That’s pretty cheap nowadays. It’s not an unobtainable thing.

Agreed.

I paid more for a large spindle of high quality blank discs than i did for a burner, printer, and blank cases.
